no la, it's not bad. it's just a common occurence in wide-angle lens - the same will happen for DSLRs also. just finding a way to correct it without cropping out too much of my already fine-tuned framing.

I encountered the same problem. however, I saw some bros here can post photos taken from LX3 without any distortion from the sides. Any tricks to do that?

Is it a must to upgrade the firmware 1.1?

just curious, did u guys buy any dehumidifier for this camera? my dad wants to buy one for it.. but i think it's a waste leh. $100+ for a 600+ dollars camera. u guys think it's needed?

I'm using 1 of those dehumidifier which u can plug into mains and "recharge" e silica beads inside. Then I dump this dehumidifier and the camera into a dry-box(NOT dry-cabinet). The dehumidifier quite famous; u shld b able to get it at most photo shops for less than $20.

wow, $20 is pretty cheap! how many times can the silica beads be recharged? and how much does the silica beads cost themselves? better option than the usual dehumidifer that dslr users put?

edit : just found the thread, is it this one? > >http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=446133&highlight=dehumidifier

looks like most ppl recommend an electric dehumidifier instead. is it very durable?

The beads inside cannot be replaced; mine's not the one in e pic; I tink mine's bigger, with the "normal" rounded-2-pin and not the flat 2 pin version in the link u quoted. And mine's white, not that it matters anyway. But concept the same bah: use electric current to dry-heat the beads inside.

I tink most DSLR users use dry CABINET instead. I only PnS mah, so that + drybox gd enuff for me.

oh okay, care to share where u bought it? i think the one in that thread from china one ( cos of the pins )

actually PnS also don't need drybox one right? never encountered fungal problems using my PnS-es all along.. anyone else share the same sentiments?

Probably don't need a cabinet if you have only 1-2 cameras.
But... the lx-3 is so convient to carry along for daily usage, i usually leave it in my bag even though i have a cabinet.
Never encountered any fungus problem with my other carry around compacts.

as long as i use it regularly, it won't get fungi right? i use it at least once a week (enough to drain the whole batt per session)

but the lens attracts dust particles easily.. what do u guys use to clean the lens? i'm using the cloth that came with the lcd protector, but it seems to rub more dust on the lens instead..

just use a blower will do.
compact seldom kena fungus one if use regularly.

hi..just curious.. so far havent seen much portrait pictures posted in the "Pictures from LX3" thread..anyone to share any settings they use for outdoor protraits? succeeded in getting any bokeh?

Hi Playhard, like you, I notice the distortion is quite severe. I think there is a way to correct is in Photoshop but I'm not an expert to advise you how to do it.

I take these two pictures to exhibit my problem:

Taken at 24mm, serious distortion at both edges. Look at the candles...

If you walk away and zoom in, taken at 60mm, the distortion is gone.

At 24mm, it is not too bad for scenery or landscape shot, it will not be good for group photo. You will never know how far you need to gather the crowd to the center so that you can crop it later. Not sure if this is common with LX3 cos I don't see this problem with my former FX01.

Any comment? Firmware upgrade will help? :dunno:

the simple rocket blower will do...compressed air spray can is more for dslr...and with small surface area for lens, how to kena fungus ?

okay.. after 15mins of thread digging i found this again

Giottos Rocket from CP, Swiss from MS Color.

review for giottos : http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Giottos-Rocket-Air-Blower-Review.aspx

finally got an idea how it looks like. seems just like a normal 'blower' used to pump balloons, just that better designed for cleaner air.

how much does it cost? browsed thru and some said it's $25?!

anyway, i already bought a lock&lock container and put my camera inside already ( no drying agent inside ).. should be fine right? i need to get a bag for it next, any recommendations? no lowepros or the likes ( which is widely suggested ).. cos i'm just looking for something that protects from scratches, and not for drops and stuff. the lowepro is really too big and makes it bulky. looking somewhere along the lines of bagman..
