Some people might believe that it is the work of 'Kumantong' (Thai baby ghost).
Believe it or not?!

So, don't think much la. If you didn't do bad things, scare what?

Sure I scare 'cause I stole a piece of lens tissue from my friend's camera bag.

Yeah.. heard of this story too.. The other explanation that I can think of is young kids that refuse to sleep in the night, they play with their toys and purposely drop their plastic ball to hear the noise created.

As for the dragging.. I still don't understand why someone do it so often in the middle of the night.

Maybe they were trying to make more room for love making?

I got this problem before... then i went up to take a look, it was really a malay kid playing with marbles...
:sweatsm:

I am sure my downstairs neighbours do wonder what is going on when my cat kicks this plastic ball with a bell in it around at night :bsmilie:

"Why you little... (strangles)"

Sometimes that kid will play with skipping ropes too... sigh i guess these are the part and parcel of living in HDB pigeon holes.

Sometimes when these sound came & i'm fed up.. i'll went up & shout at them(my neighnour) guess what.. there were NO reply cos there's no one home.. then later i went to more floor up.. i hear the same noise.. i shout at them & there's no reply too, so my hypothesis is that sound travel at quite a long distance & speed of approx 350m/s!, i live at 12th flr & the sound came from 16 flr?? :o :bsmilie:

Not surprising. Sound travels fastest through solids and slowest through gases. The sound from many floors above you can be transmitted through the steel frames and concrete to your floor, making you thinking it's just a floor above, and the transmission of sound through solids can be about 10 times as fast as in a gas.

Birds drop pebbles on the roof of your block from very high. Sound travels throughout block. Resident yells at non-existent human. :bsmilie:

Maybe if can put notes in neighbours' letter box to see if they hear the sound too. Then ask them to record when they hear it.

I suspect HDB when building the pipes, they actually put ball bearing in some place to prevent clogging.I heard that somewhere but can't remember where.
If this is really the case then the sound should be normal since matters contract and expand, making ball bearing/marbles movements.
Sound travel fast so maybe alot of units may hear the same thing at the same time.

Just think,if you put ball bearing on drain with covers, the ball bearing or marbles will be able to take those "rubbish" and create movement allowing water to pass through, instead of letting those hairs...etc to stuck there.

Just my guess,don't flame me.

When I first moved in to my flat about 7yrs ago, I had a run in with my neighbour who decided to do some redecorating with his hammer drill at 11pm! A couple of years after that confrontation, I heard the same noise and went banging on their door again. This time he said that it wasn't him as his wife was expecting so no such drilling or hammering allowed. I then asked if they occasionally dropped things on the floor and his reply was that they don't play with marbles, and in any case, they are not home most of the time  so naturally I figured that all the sounds was really caused by them.
After some years, this family moved and new neighbours moved in. Again we get the same drilling, hammering, marble dropping and dragging of furniture.
Once, when I couldn't stand all that racket anymore, I went up to confront them, but no one was home.
Since then, I have learned to endure them as everyday noise. Now that alot of people are also hearing the same things, do let me know what the explaination is :)
Recently I heard a big rock rolling back and forth at 12am. I went up and knocked on my neighbours door and turns out she was using one of those traditional batu giling to crush spice :bsmilie:
But seriously, the marbles sound still puzzles me as this family only has a teenage son who is in the army so isn't home most of them time, and they are indians so crystals are out of the question right :dunno:

wow... i think we can send this thread to the SPI... hehehehehehehe...

Wonder if they are safe?

i heard this marble sound before too! and the furniture dragging sound too...scary
any scientific theories to it?

our neighbours below came up and asked why are we dragging furnitures everynite:s it was pretty haunted. my sis woke up in the middle of the nite hearing ppl washing dishes in the kitchen. unknown shadows appearing on walls. and many more...

after we left, we found tht new tenents did not stay long.

I also heard of marble sounds and furniture moving sounds at night, around 1-2pm. There is a family with kids who live above us. We went up to confront them & they denied it. The sound disappear after each confrontation.

The sound seldom came back now. I heard from my father that the family who live above us hired a maid and they said that it was probably due to the maid's mischief. The maid wanted to create a nuisance to others to draw attentions?
She was probably denied sleep & rest, and wanted to seek some kind of discords between her employer & neighbours who lives below. There were afew occasion when she would burn pieces of tissue paper and throw them out of the window. Some of these burning tissue landed into our balcony as a result of that. We went up to confront them, but nobody admited it.

I heard that she was been sent back home not long ago. The sounds of marble and moving furniture had not came back then. Although sometime, there is still some furniture noise at night. :dunno:

Very interesting.....maybe we could start another thread on "things" we encountered in camp........

 My kids has this bag of marbles. They use to play it by dropping from a height and let it bounce until it stops. Now they still do it occasionally for our baby to chase around. Of course, the kids also push and drag the furniture around so they can get to the marbles and play some more.

I guess I must be the one screwing with my neighbors' mind... So far nobody came to complain. I hope they are ok.

:bsmilie: :)
