Thanks for the link. I do follow mu-43 forum and Amin Sabet, the admin did express that 14/2.5 is sharper than 17/1.8 by placing the former in 2nd tier and latter in 3rd tier, with 20/1.7, 45/1.8, 75/1.8, 60/2.8 in the first tier.

Interesting...
Which tier is 17 2.8 in?

Not as fast and silent as any other m43 lens I own but still faster on the OMD than the 20/1.7, which I didn't buy in the end because it was too slow for my taste. I don't think old reviews of the 17/2.8 on older bodies do it justice. So far everybody who played with the combo liked the AF speed and didn't notice the relatively low noise. Anyway, black and silver should be exactly the same. Unfortunately there are always sample variations.

Bro brought up a point I didn't think about here , hmm is it really true the performance of lens is also affected by camera body ?

Had a 17/2.8 which I sold while using EP1, if the performance is improved maybe using it on the OMD or EP3, I would seriously consider getting the 17/2.8 again given its small size / light and F2.8 ain't that bad

Sorry, this is Amin Sabet's rating,

Tier 1) Oly 75/1.8 > 45/1.8
Tier 2) Pana 20/1.7 > Pana 14/2.5 ~ PL25 ~ Oly 12/2 > Oly 17/1.8 ~ PL45
Tier 3) Oly 17/2.8

The corresponding post in mu-43 forum here --> Some initial thoughts on the Oly 17mm F1.8 - Page 4 - Micro Four Thirds User Forum

Some comparison shots of 17/1.8 and 20/1.7 as well.....

Some casual shots while testing the 17/1.8, taken with E-M5.

Does anyone has a pic of this lens on Silver OMD?

lol, the 17/1.8's paint job looked just like the 12/2, more towards champagne than pure silver.

thanks bro, now the decision between keeping my 20 or buy this 17.
or keep 20 and buy 17.:dunno:

Depends.... if i were you i would keep the 20/1.7 unless AF speed is really an issue. Not much reason to change from 20/1.7 to 17/1.8

Thanks for posting.
Hmmm....the silver is a little off......I wonder if its worse on the black OMD.

The silver is exactly the same as the 12/2. A little goldenish as compared onto the 45/1.8, which is the exact match for the OMD silver. It look ok on the silver OMD, but would have been better if its the same tone as the 45/1.8.

Yup, no idea why Olympus insists on releasing lenses in two different silver colors. :(

I tried the lens yesterday in one of the local shop but left without buying.
As i did not bring any camera, i borrow their OMD for testing.
tested on close up object, seems ok, looks sharp too.
tested again on a object 3m away, it seems very soft, try at f1.8, f2.8 and f5.6
All test with decent shutter speed, i only can remember at F1.8, shutter speed was around 1/100.
I told the shop staff that it is soft, they took the camera retake the object, result is the same.
They finally reset the camera to default setting, retry again, still soft.

maybe those who have the lens can try to take a pic at 3 metre away.
