Leica M10 to be Announced?

The Summilux 35 and 50 have their unique look shot wide opened- IMHO it's worth the extra cash. If you don't need or don't like that "lux" look- then a Summicron is a great lens- sharper at f2 but not as "dreamy" as the Lux.

Cron 35 ASPH is very sharp at f2... across to the edges... Considering paying twice d price to haf the Lux 35 ASPH, depending on one's budget and need.

The development of live view digital imaging provided breakthrough which optical rangefinder mechanism limitations of 'optical range' to allow users of Leica M to apply lenses < 28mm and > 135mm in theory.

In real life application, can focus peaking technique be good enough to take over optical rangefinder functions completely in the new Leica M?

Perhaps the experience users of many digital EVIL (electronic viewfinder interchangable lens) cameras with 'focus peaking' function can share your usage experiences?

I'm excited to find out, therefore anticipating the arrival of the new M (after selling my beloved M9)!

Focus peaking, to me, is generally just a guide on where the in-focus spot lies about, i would then use the magnify function (10x) to ensure the focus is right where it should be!

With the EVF on the 240 (ok, its the M), I think it'll surely benefit those that shoot the noctilux! Expect noct prices to go up, why not? :bsmilie:

Yeah, I love using the EVF on my EP-2. It makes taking low down shots so much easier. Moreover I can use it on M, too!

I believe that live view is good to have in a camera, but i would still shoot with the RF 95% of the time as that is what its all about and one of the main reason I would get an M.

The live view for the other 5% would be for critical shots or specialty lenses like the noct where critical focus can be achieved if needed.

Sometimes you just want to be 100% sure, but that can't really be done with the RF, so this is where the LV comes in.
I like the fact the Leica added it in with the M, however if the RF was taken out and became full evf/peaking, i would totally lose interest in that camera. :bheart:

My 2 cents.

I too love the idea of RF focusing,...fast and simple. But the limited range of lenses usable and the shallow depth of field of some lenses fully opened makes RF focusing impossible to be adequate.

Sounds like good news for those who can afford.... although the prices are much lower now... i still can't afford any :(

Haha... I have to empty my piggy bank to buy this... but even if I want... I am too late... it's sold off within a day after it was posted... It's a good price though...

Ah...so a right decision for me to sell off my M9 last weekend while I wait for Type 240 to arrive (may be another half ayear?)
Have to make do with my M8 now till new M arrives.

B&H is accepting Type 240 Pre-order at USD$6950 now,...expected delivery date is late Feb 2013. Hummm,...tempting to skip que from Leica Store RF SG! :)

Not sure the Pre-order of USD$6950 M will charge GST when arrive. I'm thinking of order one; since Leica SG quoted me $10k+

How does mail gst work? Do all items posted here need declared value? Some other countries check everything, some only do spot checks. Then also got duty and customs fee after that. What's the price limit of goods when Singpost starts charging GST? I googled around and saw a $400 figure somewhere, seems quite low.

Also some Leica M-Es are arriving in US and Aus, any reached sg yet?

ME selling in HK for 43k HKD. I'm flying there tomm. Cheers.

I am prepared for a SGD$10k+ price tag for the new M (type 240) to take delivery from Leica Store in SG as I remember Cathay gave me a quote of SGD$11k for a M9 back in 2009. I understand the prices of Leica staff are more expensive in Asia with the exception of HK.

I had the experience of purchasing my SF58 flash from B+H through internet and overnight delivery to my hotel in US (I was not in NY then). Everything went well and I saved SGD$300 as the price from B+H was USD$649 vs SGD$1200 in SG and Taipei leica store.

I am very certain that I will pick up one unit of type 240 from B+H if I happen to have a business trip to US in early 2013 and B+H has ready stock then. The 2 year warranty for all leica products is international, so no advantage for buying locally like many think so.

I was reading as many preview reactions to the new M as possible trying to understand more on the new M.
I had the following conclusions:

1 Two main groups of users who are unhappy with the new M:
1.1 Diehard film RF users,....most feel that digital and anything more than good old fashion RF is no good.
1.2 Street Photographers,...almost no interest in ultra wide and telephoto lenses. Limit lies with M9 of ME. And not forgetting God provided them with superb eyesight.

2 The group of SLR users who have already embrased digital cameras. I think Leica is trying to expand its mystique of the new M into this group of users. And I belong here.

Bah. THere's always a group of idiots who think that X company must serve their whims and needs at all cost, damn the others.

I am less inclined to take this group with any kind of seriousness that gives them even an ounce of credit. What Leica has done with the M(10) is finally bring the camera to a standard at least comparable to the older generation of mirrorless cameras.

Personally I won't consider this camera until the price has fallen considerably, which is probably 4 or so years from now. For now, my used M9 will serve my purposes in the meantime.

My shameless confession:

I was in love with the M9 until I saw what the new M can do!
