erm. i don't find any faults with the lcd screen. it's just a blown up issue, or rather non-issue.
when ppl online complain bout it based on tech specs only, i kinda got worried, but just bought it anyway.. when using it, to me, it feels like 10x better than my ricoh grd1 n dp1 screen. maybe 4x better than my nikon d200 screen...

I actually did a side by side comparison with my LX3 and E-P1 at low light situation.
LX3 has lesser noise compare to E-P1. So does that means the screen is not as good? Or is it the sensor? or the lens?

The type of screen I am looking at is like when you make a 3G call using your CMOS camera type (hmm... something like that...).

Can anyone advice me? Or is it my screen got prob???

anyone knows if there is an end date for the free batt when signing up to be a e-club member? cause got no time to go down.. :(

Can anyone tell me if I can shoot with the backlit lcd off.
Will pressing the shutter button on the LCD?

Thanks :)

you can configure either the AF or Function button to turn off the LCD backlighting.

Im really itching to get the EP1, unfortunatly I was to late to get the dual lens kit.
1250-1300 for the zoom kit when the dual lens was 1550 just seems like a raw deal :(

Do you guys know when the shop expect to get more dual kits?
Or if anyone has the zoom kit in silver/black at a better price?

thanx!

was at IMM a couple of hours ago, they only have the zoom lens kit available at the roadshow, out of the pancake lens kit and they did not stock twin lens kit...

went there to check out the price for the pancake kit, since no challenger member price only member points went to get myself a new pair of adidas instead... my wallet is saying thank you...
They are selling at the recommended retail price. So unless you want to make use of your credit card's 0% interest installment scheme to pay for it, you could get better pricing at almost any other dealers, some of whom still have stock for both the zoom and pancake kits.

Is the EP-1 top-heavy with the FL-36 on?
The FL-36 is not very heavy but it would definitely be more top heavy than the FL-14 which is designed for the E-P1. For me, it is still acceptable as I already have one and am only using it when absolutely necessary.

An alternative flash to the FL-14 is the DWM-FL220 from Panasonic for the G1/GH1. It can bounce... the swivel-head mount allows for 60 degrees of up/down and 78 degrees of right/left movement. ;)

Believe me you, I am the 100% crop guy. I don't think the E-P1 is worse off than the LX3 in terms of noise. You need to take into consideration details vs Noise Reduction.

hi..

just want to check if this panasonic fl220 flash fully compatible with ep-1?
mind to share where can i get it?
u know howmuch?

thank you

Thanks for your insights. The FL-14 is no better than a pop-up flash so I will not get one just for a fashion statement. :bsmilie: I have a Metz 48AF-1 which is too big for the EP-1. I'm kind of gravitating towards a Metz 36AF, which is about the same size as the FL-36. Just trying to imagine how it looks like.

Yes, the Panny is another alternative.

Cheers!

I think he was referring to the LCD screens of both sets under low light condition and not the images captured under low light condition.

I agree with you that the E-P1 is way, way better than the LX3 as far as image noise is concerned. If you look at the image at 100%, the ones from the LX3 or D-Lux 4 are actually noisy even at ISO 100. At higher ISOs, the noise artifacts and smearing of details increases to even higher levels. Those who have always been using P&S might think that the LX3 is great but those who use DSLRs and like to pixel peep will not be so impressed.

These dedicated powered FL-14 flash should be far better than those tiny build-in flash but I feel that the FL14 is currently priced too expensive for a simple flash to be purchased.

While the FL36 works very well, it is still big. Fortunately, the E-P1 is much heavier than the FL36 such that it will not tilt down.

The FL-14 is only about as strong as a typical built-in flash. To me it is not strong enough and can't reach far enough in a room shot. What's more it can't bounce.

I find the FL-36 more useful. It is small and can bounce. What's more, it has the FP mode which allows the E-P1 to flash sync at any speed. That's why I'm still hesitant about buying the FL-14.

As Guide Number goes, the FL-14's is of course 14 while most built-in flashes are around 11 or 12. So it's light casting power is only slightly higher than built-in flash. As an external flash, it's features are pathetic and is a dumbed down subset of the other Olympus flashes and is priced too high as you have said.

Besides the G1/GH1, the Panasonic DMW-FL220 is also designed for use with the LX3 and L10. Both the LX3 and L10 is fully compatible with all the recent Olympus flashes, so the E-P1 should be compatible with the FL220.

Metz 36AF same size as FL36?
not sure if DMW-FL220 need to use back panasonic cam to upgrade firmware in future?
Metz 36AF-4 O seems to be more future proof.

Is DMW-FL220 selling in sinagpore yet? price?

I have seen it at Best Denki Takashimaya but never check out the price. Why don't you call up the usual dealers and ask for their pricing?

Besides the FL-14 flesh from Olympus, what other smallisg flesh is compatible with ep-1? Is 28 CS-2 working with it ?

Thanks.

Has anyone noticed that even though the G1/GH1 and E-P1 all subscribe to the m43 standards, the way they cope with legacy Four Thirds lenses is different.

The G1/GH1 can only autofocus with Panasonic's own Four-Thirds lenses and only with the newer Olympus Four Thirds lenses that are designed for contrast detection AF. With the older Olympus ZD lenses, only manual focus is possible.

See their compatibility list here:
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/connect/g1.html

The E-P1 on the other hand can autofocus with every ZD lens, new or old, that I have and tried. It would a bit slower in autofocusing with the older ZD lenses that are not designed for CDAF but will at least still do so.

I am wondering whether this is achieved by the firmware/hardware in the camera body or in the MMF-1 adapter.
