Believe me you, I am the 100% crop guy. I don't think the E-P1 is worse off than the LX3 in terms of noise. You need to take into consideration details vs Noise Reduction.

No you misunderstood me. I am not talking about the details or the camera's capbility. I am talking about the SCREEN RESOLUTION here.

I think he was referring to the LCD screens of both sets under low light condition and not the images captured under low light condition.

I agree with you that the E-P1 is way, way better than the LX3 as far as image noise is concerned. If you look at the image at 100%, the ones from the LX3 or D-Lux 4 are actually noisy even at ISO 100. At higher ISOs, the noise artifacts and smearing of details increases to even higher levels. Those who have always been using P&S might think that the LX3 is great but those who use DSLRs and like to pixel peep will not be so impressed.

You are very right! At 400 ISO, the noise in LX3 sucks! But when I use the E-P1, about 800 ISO in the same room, the noise is very little : )

I think the M43 to 43 adapter from Chiff has no electronic contacts.

Actually the Pana M43 45-200mm f/4.0-5.6 is competitively priced. ;)

Bought the panny 45-200 for $460.
Now thinking of getting the 7-14mm....

Double agreed, LX3 cannot compare at higher iso against E-P1 but this behaviour is consistent with small sensor.

Just updated with LX3 and Sigma samples.

Finally today I got to do more test shots and I'm addicted to the cam! One problem I found is the scroll wheel is a little too sensitive. I keep accidentally press it and go into ISO/WB etc selection mode. Grrrr. Maybe the leather half case will solve the problem.

Since the E-P1 has shutter blades too, means the shutter lifespan will have to be taken into account like a dSLR.

I have the same thoughts as you, but when I checked the image exif using Opanda, there's no mention of shutter count like the images taken from my Nikon D90

my gf is considering getting this cam after i told her about it (she wanted an lx3 for a long time).

now when i look more into it, i think this would be the perfect accesssory to my current dslr kit as the camera i would take where it is impractical to use my dslr.

i wish i had money and it wasn't so expensive though =(

Now you sound like a "micro-poisoned person".... ha ha ha. Would love to look at the 7-14mm (so cute, so small) if you were to buy it...

You got it at a very good price. Mind sharing your source? The 7-14mm will be good to have. Hopefully the image quality will be close to the Oly glass.

Buy from abroad. Let me know if u're keen.

Is that in SING $ ??? Got lobang?

Actually many US retailers are selling it at the region of USD$600-640. You can use Vpost if you get impatient with the local retailers or Panasonic Singapore. Why don't you locate the Panasonic office in Singapore and call them for a retailer who might have them? Sometimes an obscure retailer might stock them, you will never know.
