erm. i don't find any faults with the lcd screen. it's just a blown up issue, or rather non-issue.
when ppl online complain bout it based on tech specs only, i kinda got worried, but just bought it anyway.. when using it, to me, it feels like 10x better than my ricoh grd1 n dp1 screen. maybe 4x better than my nikon d200 screen...

I'm sure the screen is better than 99% of the cameras three years and older.

nope i've not. only latest cam i played with recently is my friend's lx3. mentally i don't recall it being significantly better or worst than the ep1.

I actually saw the review bout the videos taken by the ep1... I have never seen any camera that took video that are so sharp and precise~~~ WOW! Even better than Dslrs HD videos~~! Thou must be high draining memory space. But WOW

I actually took out my D-Lux 4 and E-P1 and compared the LCD displays in my darkened room when I first read the complaint last night. From what I can see, I don't find that the LCD display of the D-Lux 4 to be twice as good as that of the E-P1 despite it having twice the resolution. The resolution of the D-Lux 4 screen looked just slightly better but it was let down by the white balance which seems to be off... too cool for that kind of room lighting environment. The white balance on the E-P1 was much better and more natural.

good to know :) i assume the lx3 should be very close if not same as teh dlux 4's screen?
goes to show pixel count ain't everything. also glad they didn't go for like a too high MP sensor.. i'm happy with 10mp..

with regard to the lcd screen resolution, I find it to be ok most of the time, even under bright sun.
However, when I manual focus to check focus, the resolution isn't as good as what I can get from Canon 5D2. I'm only using the 2 kit lens for now but I think the LCD will be a problem for precise focusing with fast lenses.

Haha. I've read why Olympus didn't upgrade the screen. Sounds like an excuse only though.

Q On the definition of the LCD at 230k pixels, inferior to certain much cheaper compacts – (Ricoh R10 and CX1)

A LCDs at 960 k pixels offer greater precision, but their brightness is lower. Olympus has chosen to give priority to to brightness to obtain an image more readable in full sun. But technologies evolve and we will take account of this in future models.

anyone is getting the flash? how is it performs?

The FL-14 is only about as strong as a typical built-in flash. To me it is not strong enough and can't reach far enough in a room shot. What's more it can't bounce.

I find the FL-36 more useful. It is small and can bounce. What's more, it has the FP mode which allows the E-P1 to flash sync at any speed. That's why I'm still hesitant about buying the FL-14.

I think i hit your advice. find the it price and the capability not a value buy. thanks

I bought the fl-14 and I would say it's better than the typical builtin ones in the canons and nikons ... The coverage worked fine for my pancake lens and the recharge was very fast within 1 or 2 secs on my cheap Ikea AAAs.

Hope this helps.

Ps: I got it for like dinners/birthdays , don't really use flash much at all

The HD video from the E-P1 is indeed very good!!!! Damn good in fact.

finally got a chance to get quick and dirty with it practically. Initial thoughts

LCD is bright under direct sunlight, but honestly while viewable, is still hard to manual focus under the noon's sun. Then again, that calls for large dof which is oly's advantage.

I like the super control menu the more I use it, though I am starting to find the wheel around the d-pad a little to easily turned. I would sometimes turned the wheel accidentally and messed up certain settings I didn't want to... then again I hit the buttons really fast so it could be user.

I am a manual focus user ever since I started with a D40, and while I found the system oly use "rocks", I found it hard not to have any type of focal scale in camera or on the lens. Especially with LCD off(which was pretty much most of the time). I tend to pre-focus at something prolly 7 feet away and switch off the lcd allowing dof to take care of the rest, only to realise I accidentally shifted the focal ring idon'tknowwhen. Again, it's the current lens "problem", not a general one, just something I had.

As for IQ, honestly other than ISO and res, i didn't notice any major improvement over my 6mp D40, though it renders colors and night nicely. Nikon system tends to be a little odd at the green side and night scene?

Love the shutter sound, nice, soft and discreet. I am getting a little too trigger happy with this. Need to stop releasing shutter for no reasons.

Loving the white. The camera can be as discreet as I want it to be, while the white allows me to grab attention a little easiler than a full black camera.

was at IMM a couple of hours ago, they only have the zoom lens kit available at the roadshow, out of the pancake lens kit and they did not stock twin lens kit...

went there to check out the price for the pancake kit, since no challenger member price only member points went to get myself a new pair of adidas instead... my wallet is saying thank you...

Hi Oly5050,
Could you explain how good the 720P mjpeg video really is? Perhaps with reference to consumer videocam like the canon HV-30 or HFS-10, although the recording format is different. I'm considering between the EP-1 and Panasonic GH-1.
Thank you.

Is the EP-1 top-heavy with the FL-36 on?

Can anyone tell me if I can shoot with the backlit lcd off.
Will pressing the shutter button on the LCD?

Thanks :)
