It's here! Olympus E-P1 "Digital Pen" m43 system

It's more about the DOF/bokeh than the amount of light for me, actually. I'm a big fan of primes so I cannot accept anything > f2.8 :bsmilie:

If I'm not wrong...the price of the 50mm f2 can also cut me, right? :D

Yes, the f2 + macro in the LX3 is pretty good. However a PnS is still a PnS, there are still certain things that a DSLR will do better, imo. I actually think the LX3 is so perfect in what it does (sharpness etc etc) that I don't feel like I'm taking a photo. I'm just pressing a button :bsmilie:

Tomcat is right, the E-P1 definitely have better control at F2.8 for shallow DOF despite that LX3 is using a F2.0 lens due to the larger sensor. To get a FOV of 24mm using the LX3, the actual focal length of the lens is 5.1mm. For equivalent FOV of 24mm using E-P1, the focal length is 12mm, which gives a more shallow DOF even at F2.8.

tomcat, you do mean that the E-P1 is using a four thirds sensor and not a APS C sensor right?

I want to get the E-P1 because there are 2 obvious things that my lumix lx3 can't do:
- Telephoto
- Bokeh for portraits

What M4/3 lens would I need to get for Potrait bokeh?

Thanks! :P

For telephoto, perhaps you can get the Zuiko 40-150 F4.0-5.6 and use a FT adapter to keep things small and portable. For portraits with bokeh, you can get the Zuiko 50mm F2.0 macro although it might be too sharp for portraits (but I like sharp portraits). There is also a rumor that Leica will be producing a 30mm F1.4 summilux for mFT.

Those Voigtlanders are definitely good for low-light photography. Any idea how much they costs?

never had i got so excited over a camera...
this will be my 2nd oly camera since e500. after looking at the reviews and sample pics, I have high hopes on it.
hope to meet and learn from experienced olympus users soon. :)

The challenge is in the Wide Angle Fast lens. I think perfect for indoor would be 14mm F2.8 non-Fisheye, though heard it is sharp only after stopping down 1~2 stops. Let's see what else are in the pipeline from the manufacturer and lens maker.

Mid-tele ~ Tele we have plenty to choose from.

Will olympus sell E-P1 in body only package?
I'm planning to use E-P1 with m mount lens only.

called cathay, was told price $1598 for the dual lens kit, inclusive of OVF, other accessories like SD card and extra battery unconfirmed. also was told the E-P1 is likely to be available either weekend (from Friday) or Monday.

called alan photo, was told not sure when the E-P1 will available and not sure about the price, advised me to call again tomorrow.

called ms color, was told E-P1 will be available tomorrow (Friday) but quantity is limited. Price quoted to me is $1550 (forgot to ask whether it's before or after GST), inclusive of E-P1 body, 14-42 lens, 17/2.8 lens, OVF, 8GB SD card and one extra batt.

hope this info helpful.

Get the Nokton 50mm f/1.5 loh... about 1/3 the cost of the f/1.1.
Good value for money. ;)
I have a silver colored one... would go well with the E-P1 :)

the voigtlander modern RF lenses look really good and the prices are really down-to-earth compared to the Leicas...

looking forward to your E-P1 samples...will be especially good (hint hint) if there are comparisons with your DP1. :bsmilie:

Yes, they are really great value for money lenses.. pin-sharp and extremely solid and well-built. Solid metal... not like the fake metal of the m43 lenses. :what:

think the noktons are in the S$700 - S$800...the guys at the rangefinder sub-forum will probably have a better idea. there are sample photos too http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5229174#post5229174

Wow, the image quality of the Nokton 50mm F1.1 really blown me away. At around S$1.5k, it is also priced reasonably, although I still don't have so much cash to spare for now.
