AF is around the same speed as G1? Now we're talking. Looks like a lot of ppl are waiting for this.

R U guys sure about this? A lot of reviews said it was very slow. Imaging resource said only the 17mm was fast and the 14-45mm is so slow that is is like unuseable.

Well, I only used the 17mm. Did not try with the 14-42mm kit lens because I will be using the 14-54mm with the P1 if I need that focal range.

Not sure what is drakon09's findings.

The 14-42mm was fine; perhaps not as fast as the 17mm in a low contrast situation, but definitely not unusable.

So AF speed issue has been more or less put to rest, that is good!

It is quite inconceivable for Oly to hype up the E-P1 if it focuses as slow as your run-of-the-mill PnS.

Let me put in a fair word.

Most of the mZD 14-42mm lenses that were shown on the official launch yesterday still bears firmware v0.90. Let's wait for v.1.00 before we come to a fair conclusion. :)

Over at DPR, the editors observed that the AF performance of E-P1 with Panasonic mFT zoom lens is fast. So, I would deduced that the issue probably lies with the lens. Let Olympus sort out this issue and we shall see the performance when the consumer set eventually hit the street in July.

By the way, the image quality is good. Suffice to say, I'm generally impressed!

Sorry CYRN, I don't think I can do that at the moment. Unit's not with me anymore...

No problem. I'm just curious a out the buffer flush time. But I guess it should not be an issue since it can push through AVI in video mode.

with regard to AF speed, I dont think the E-P1 is meant to be that type of camera meant for sports shooting ...... more meant for serious street photography in a small low profile package

Pricing and Availability

Available in two colours: black and white, the Olympus E-P1 will be retailing at all major retailers and dealers in July 09.

S$1,298 – standard lens kit (M. ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6)
S$1,488 – pancake lens kit (M. ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm f2.8)
S$1,598 – twin lens kit (M. ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 and M. ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm f2.8)

To me ,the price is a bit of expensive...can get a full function canon 500D kit liao.

Well, Aundry Gan uses the E-P1 to shoot S-League in tandem with his E-3, but yep, it's a streetshooting camera especially with the 17mm slapped on.

Set at f8, MF, target comes within 4 to 5 ft, boom boom boom.

That's RRP, street prices should be 15% lower.

In any case, E-P1 buyers would, at the top of the concerns, want a smaller, less obtrusive camera (think rangefinder) for streetshooting. A DSLR really does not hack it for streetshooting; too obvious and too intimidating.

tmr we will knw it fast or slow, however i dun expect too much..unless the kit is swd driven.
it look common sense if the pe1 isn't as fast as the g1, i mean how much motor power can they pack into such small body?

Forgot to add, the lens cap is a pinch-cap design, not a screw on like the 25mm/f2.8 pancake.

You will be surprised how easy it is... well, shall not tell you more... leave you in suspense until a later date... :sticktong
By the way, it might not be this Saturday... its a no brainer thing really...

go ahead,be my guest,i can wait for this :bsmilie:,crap man,OT already, looking forward to tomorrow

The more I see the white color model, the more I like it. It does has a feel of modern look but old school feel.

am i the only one who have the fantasy on strapping the 50-200mm swd onto this digital pen?

The M-Mount to micro Four Thirds adapter is already out my friend... I cannot remember where but it is already available. In the worse case scenario, 4/3 adapter + M-mount 4/3 adapter... but I remember the Leica R and M mounts were the first to be supported on the micro Four Thirds platform.

yup thanks. i know there are a few M mount to m4/3 adapters. just dunno if there are any diff between the brands...
voitlander has one but $200+
there's a no brand oem one $100+
just wondeirng if the oem one is good enough...

I had never gotten this excited about a camera, not even when I got my D300. The size and style are really tempting me but I am wondering, without an OVF, will the LCD be a pain to view in daylight? Also, what are the lens choices I have to cover the 24-105 focal range and preferably with an aperture of f/2.8 on EP-1?

Called CP, TK and OP and no one has an idea when they will get it...

The wide angle and telephoto zooms will be seen in 2010
