Thanks a lot for the wonderful writeup with pictures of the product/media launch. Did they happen to share the lens roadmap too? Think a lot of pple are all eagerly waiting to hear some news about what to expect from the arsenals this little guy is going to have. :)

First off, all lenses in the Zuiko Digital line up can be use like normal with this camera.
The roadmap details has yet to be released as for now. I really hope the 10mm pancake will materialise.

Rumor mill speculates that there will be wide zoom and tele zoom for this lens come Q1 2010. More primes after that. All rumours though, not official from olympus. I myself is watching Panasonic's 20mm f1.7.

Any indication of its retail price??

RRP accurate as of 18th June 2009, subject to changes :

Pricing & Availability
The Olympus PEN E-P1 will be available at all major retailers and dealers in July 2009. Products are available in two colours: Black/Silver & White.

Personally, the only lens I am getting other than the 17mm pancake is the 7-14mm ultra wide... from Panasonic.

Major poison man.. Really...

If the E-P1 is already so damn good, I can't imagine what the next model will be like... ;p

Maybe built-in MP3 player, GPS, Wifi... :bsmilie:

But all I'm hoping for is weatherproofing, a good VF. Pro-spec m43... Man, drool... I shall wait...

LCD: 230k pixels is enough, seriously.

This is just being apologetic about it. Once you've used a VGA screen extensively it's hard to go back. It's not just about the resolution; it's the way the LCD dots are laid out. The lower res screens use this honeycomb layout that also gives a poorer perception of sharpness. A VGA screen give a sharpness and clarity that is more than 4 times its resolution would suggest.

hi just checking, does the twin lens kit also come with the OVF for the 17mm? Cause the jap's listing says it does... jap olympus throwing in the 4/3 adapter for those who preorder..
man i can't wait to get one.. haha... will there be ample stock?

boy this is a much much better buy of the sigma dp1 when it first came out.. i remembered paying 1.4k+ for it... *sob*

i know i'm getting one heheh... :bsmilie:
sold my 450d last month. so just nice....

The bossman giving his opening speech. I have the entire presentation recorded.
Will upload if you are interested.

the white looks damn good in your actual shots. not toy-looking at all

i think i can live with any shitty lcd screen after living through the sigma dp1's screen... n tat low light live view... painful... might as well don't look...
haha

if they can make it a range finder, tat'll be perfect man.. haha... then can use my M mount lens on this baby...

Oh man, the DP series. Sigma had a good idea, but implementation was terrible.

from the pics given, does it means that the white body will come with the silver 14-42 lens, and the silver/black body comes with a black lens??

I personally will want a silver 14-42 lens with the black/silver body.

thats the big problem with micro 4/3 , both panasonic and olympus giving us colours to choose, such a big headache:bsmilie:

life was easier with regular fourthirds, just black. you only need to worry about the camera bag. :embrass:

yeah.. kinda wasted.. but some how i still like the pics it produces..
glad that olympus did a good implementation of it.

does anyone roughly know how long it takes the e-p1 to save a raw file to the memory card? cause the dp1's 5sec wait is a killer....

Definitely will not be that long. It's a DSLR in a way as well you know, just without a mirror box. Depends on your card as well.

yeah hopefully.... can we 'preorder' it?

The E-P1 is not a compact; it has the electronics of a DSLR so memory card transfer speeds are as quick. It accepts Class 4 to 6 SDHC cards.

I saw some images showing the leather case (not sure if it is leather, just guessing) will it be inlcuded? got pre-order list? I want Silver with 17mm, can Panasonic G1 kit lens AF with this? I wonder how in-body IS and Panasonic Lens IS will work together, produce much better stabilty or cancel out each other making it worse.

Anyone tried that?
