If you were to ask me, I will take the one with the black leather grip. More classic and it compliment well with the black color lenses. If you saw those classic chrome SLR, you know what I mean :)

White also very sexy leh. :bsmilie: Get both! ;p

BTW, talking about remotes, I don't see any IR sensor on the camera?? How to have IR remote? :dunno:

I think in the reviews and the articles in which Olympus published, they did not mention anything about wireless remote support, but they did mention about the cabled shutter release. So I guess they sum up to make sense, no wireless (IR) remote but cabled remote is supported.

Great! cable release is better:bsmilie:

if you look at the front view, there are 3 black dots, the one on the upper right is the IR sensor, the 2 beside the word OLYMPUS are left/right microphone (I think).

Cut away view of the E-P1. That is one tightly packed camera!

Naaaah it was probably working. Companies regularly slice their cameras down the middle this way to illustrate the workings since it's easier than to show an exploded parts display (not the usual diagram =p)

Back from the product launch.

Handled a production E-P1 with the production lenses.

I'll provide the short answers to your concerns for now (Cliff would follow up with a full report):

AF speed: FAST!
Feel: Solid
LCD: 230k pixels is enough, seriously.
VF: Not missed.
On-board flash: Not missed.
Video: 720p works just fine.
Sound: PCM 44.1k.
Conclusion: My E-300/E-410/70-300mm/18-180mm/ LX-3 (possibly) could be on BnS very soon.

How's the AF speed compared to say, E620 (not liveview), E620 (with liveview) and maybe your LX-3? :)

Yup, it is going to be very nice. I have my mind set on the Silver one already.

AF is snappy, similar to the G1 (which means it's miles ahead of the LX-3).

Haven't used the LV on the E-620 before so I can't say in that department.

Oh man oh man oh man....how how how! That short review is making me want to buy it! And I just bought the E-30!

Official E-P1 Launch
18th June 2009 Singapre
Media Preview

I shall leave the technical review at a later time, as I was more busy shooting images than to spend time
with the production model (yes, firmware is 1.0, meaning its launch ready!)
One thing for sure, the E-P1 with 17mm pancake lens is a MUST-BUY!
Not something you "consider", but a must buy. After the retail release is out,
I shall be doing a class on E-P1+17mm pancake street shooting
technical handling to demonstrate why the 17mm and E-P1 is an amazing setup.

Summary of all the killer points about E-P1 :

(1) With the adapter, regular Four Thirds lens have AF control! Yay!
(2) C-AF, Manual Focusing ability with HD video. Though the C-AF at
this current firmware is a little jerky (will explain later on why).
(3) Stereo PCM audio recording. Pro level sound in stereo. Yay!
(though limited at 44.1kHz but for all its good enough)
(4) When connected to a TV set to playback stuff, there is a built in
"background music function" when you are playing back slides.
(5) You can record audio to still images!!! Wow!!! Now you can take
a picture during your holiday and remember how the ambient sound was like.
Superb idea and implementation. Amazing.
(6) Lens roadmap will be released shortly. Releasing camera with 17mm
pancake and 14-42 kit lens with OVF and FL-14 Flash in first week of July 2009.
(Alan Photo and Cathay Photo will have stock, for sure).
(7) Live View Control is up to the next level. Amount of control is amazing.
(8) Art Filters in HD video capture with stereo sound. Bloody hell! GH1... bye bye...
(9) HDMI output! Good for those who have a HDMI input TV.
(10) OVF will be bundled with the camera. Buy buy buy! OVF is very bright!
(11) Flash unit released with the camera. FL-14. Not (R) though...
(12) FASTER ART FILTER PROCESSING through TruePic V (5) engine! Killer!

And... here are the images from the event...

Verdict : For its price and what the final version can deliver... really... you have to find a lot of excuses NOT to buy it.

Husbands, time to start negotiations with your Ministress of Home Affairs. :bsmilie:

I know for sure, drakon09 is getting the silver one.

First week of July 2009 in your favourite stores. As you are reading this now, the dealers are at the product training and negotiating the prices.

Any indication of its retail price??

Thanks a lot for the wonderful writeup with pictures of the product/media launch. Did they happen to share the lens roadmap too? Think a lot of pple are all eagerly waiting to hear some news about what to expect from the arsenals this little guy is going to have. :)
