I think you miss out the grain (Noise) which is one of the characteristics of IR photography. nice glow you get there...but careful of the detail...you might overexposed them.

Panda and Dennis - Ya, I noticed the lack of grains in the posted pic. Don't know why but my process pic is very much grainier than what was posted.
Ah, never mind. Just playing around to see if I could get the effect. Anyway thanks for your opinions.

Vortes - You're still not getting blue skies huh? I also don't get blue skies with the 5700 in IR. Guess it could be the CCD. But then blue skies or not it's what you see and what you like. BnW IR looks good to me as well as coloured.

IRman - Thanks for comments/opinions. I think with some post processing, it can get near film IR. But still FAKE IR :bsmilie:

Hi Vortex, Tried with the 8400, believe IRman was correct, May be due to glare leakage as I was holding the filter in front of the lens and my 8400 has a UV guard filter on. Could be due to a bad case of lens flare as well (see pic). I believe if adjusted properly it will be OK. Are you also holding the filter in front like I do ??.

Slightly better adjustment fro flare but still have green tint.

I don't know about Nikon lens since I don't have a Nikon DSLR but IR shooters using Canon DSLRs have found that these lenses are good and bad for IR photography insofar as the hot-spot problem is concerned:

I had just tried out the EF 50mm f/1.8 Mk 2 today and can confirm that it is very good for IR photography - no hot-spot whatosever.

...and from the last photo, it would seem that pine leaves do not reflect much infra red radiation since they looked very dark compared to those of the other plants.

anyways i used a stepup ring for the R72...maybe i didn't screw it in tightly?

sadly no...i also emailed to both NPB and Botanic gardens.
looks like both are slacking in their customer service emails

Don't know if the 5050 is capable of IR or not, but I've seen pics shot with the UZ750 and they're good.

If you're interested and don't know what to expect, don't buy the filter first. Come join us at our outing, scheduled to be this weekend, venue to be confirmed. You can borrow my Hoya R72 to try out, see the results, then decide on purchase later. Filter size may not fit your lens, but can just try by holding it over your lens.

You will get a reddish effect. By taking out the saturation then bring up the contrast will give you a feel of mono Infra. at least the sky is black instead of blue.

Dennis is right, not natural for a imitation of IR. I had accidently found a way to make a digital picture to look likes a colour IR pic, I am not good at PS so maybe someone expert might enlighten us here. One problem I found is that the method i used can't make white to remain white, but worth to try out. I hope Tomcat maybe can share with us his technique

1 Open any colour picture prefer with blue sky and green vegetation.
2. go to Layer > Adjustment layer > channel mixer
3. It will pop up a window, just click OK
4 Channel mixer window appear, drag or type in R ( Red) bar / value to 40 %
5 Drag or type B value to 35 %
6 Now check the monochrome box
7 Uncheck again the monochrome box
8 Now drag the R value to higher percentage eg 180 %
9 Drag B channel bar to lower value eg -25% ( minus value )
10 Adjust the both value accordingly to get the effect

You'll see the green become red vegetation and blue sky remain blue, however not all pictures suitable to do this, especially if picture contain white cloud, due to colour cast appear.

Anyway no harm trying. Save me a lot on colour slide $$$ hee hee !!
