This filter is almost as dark as the R72 and has 50% transmittance at 715mm (compared to 50% transmittance at 720mm for R72). Can be used as a cheap alternative to large diameter R72. But must also invest in the Cokin P system to use it properly.
Do let us know if CP has it and how much it cost.

Yah, I would like to know the price too and if it's available at CP.

That's a Cokin, it may fit my Hoyarex Filter holder as it's the same size as all my other Hoyarex Filters, 75mm x 75mm. I'm interested.

Do let us know, thanks.

Hi Yappy,
A number of us here are relatively new to IR.
This particular thread was started by PandaOng on the 1st Nov.

Not meaning to aviod going into detail, a suggestion would be to read forward from the first day.

You will find interesting discussions with many questions and many usefull answers.

A couple of the first photo's are no longer there, but only a few.
I have learnt much from this forum and I am sure you will also.
Once you understand the basic concepts, you will no doubt be posting your results here adding to the knowledge pool.

It is interesting and fun. Do get into it

ok went to ruby and CP already.

none of them carry the Ilford SFX filter.

i asked the price of the cokin filters
67mm - $16
Holder - $10

price of filter from B&H - USD$16.50 (excluding shipping)
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&A=ShowProduct&Q=&sku=212438&is=REG

anyone interested?

Thanks for the trouble vortex. What filters are the Cokin, IR also? Don't know if it's the same light frequency as the R72.

Maybe I should go down to CP to have a look myself or look for the 75mm gel filters.

no problem. my pleasure.
sadly they dont have the cokin infrared filters :(
i was just refering to the holder.

i made a shocking discovery....the shipping for the filter to singapore costs USD$26.25
dunno if it would be cheaper if there were more items or not

the cokin IR filter:
http://www.firstcall-photographic.co.uk/pp/Camera_Accessories/Cokin_Filters/Cokin_A007_Infrared_720_(89B)_filter.html

Cokin users can now get proper infrared results by purchasing the new 720 filter. Until now, you had to make do with A003 or P003 red filters, which gave an effect but were not full infrared. Although principally recommended for black and white film you can use it with colour negative or even digital cameras

Being fully 720nm compatible at 50% transmission, this 89B filter is available in both "A" and "P" series. Now you can experience the full surreal creative effects of white foliage or dark sky's for such a small investment.

sounds like the R72

Hi teerex,
Not that I am about to change from R72, but
Do you know if a filter such as say the RM90 gives better colour response
as well as giving the same IR effect, due to its light frequency range. :dunno:
By this I mean, is it possable to have a filter that produces the IR effect on trees
yet still allows more sky colour as well ?
I hope this makes some sense

i was thinking abt that as well.

RM90 pics ive seen are almost monochrome/b&w...i dunno if it was on purpose or not.
transmittance at 930nm

R72 ....got nice color still. affordable and used by many
transmittance at 720nm

so i was thinking....if we get something below 720nm....wont we be able to get even more colours in????

B+W 091 / Tiffen 29: ......620nm = more colours????

check the IR filter summary chart here:

Just check their site.
They have only 9 of these filters in stock. If all were bought, the airmail postage cost is US$32.50 making a grand total of US$181 for 9 filters inclusive of freight. So each is about US$20. Still quite cheap compared to 72mm R72.

But these are gelatin filters and you may need a gelatin filter holder like this as well:

Hi vortex,
Thanks for the link
I think it was teerex that previously made reference to IR pro's out there that
might be sitting back watching this thread.
To this I did put forth a request that if so, would they care to join in and share some of their knowledge.

As I am, and I imagine everyone else here, enjoys the personal and collective
experience we are gathering.
I would apperciate input from IR pro's. Show us some photo's and give a few pointers.
I very much enjoy the trial and learning experience, but, I would love to see a photo
that would make us all gasp !!
Mind you, you guys seem to do that to me on a daliy basis

Nikon D70 with R72 and PPed with PS

Pablo, vortex,

I think I'll stick with the R72, happy with it. The RM90 is a much darker red IR filter, it will take longer exposure time and if I use that I'll definitely have to carry a tripod to shoot IR. (still too lazy to carry one). Pics from the RM90 are more BnW if no pp is done, but I guess some colours can still be achieved from the colour channels in PS.

I was toying with the idea of buying the Ilford Gelatin IR filter to try out as it's quite cheap. But the shipping cost, argh too high. There's another thread here where someone is gathering up orders ot buy form B&H to save on shipping cost, will look for the thread and let you guys know.

Yes Pablo, I do think that there are some IR pros who are lurking this thread to see if we're doing right. Hope these guys would come on in to shed some light, we need more light for IR.

Adiemus is one guy who was and I think still is interested in IR. But too bad, he had to swap his camera and R72 for nappies and milk bottles for the time being. Hey Adiemus, nice to see you back here and your post, come join on our next shoot if you can.

Anybody tried the B+W Tiffen 29?

A question,
Are not Gelatin filters similar in thickness and durability as say 35mm film.
(That is the only example I can think of :dunno: )

If that is the case, I guess you would have to take great care not to crease or scratch it accidently :dunno:

I have not seen one but the idea sounds like colour filters used for stage spot lights.

Just a thought. :)
