You all haven't decide to go where to shoot yet, if going to the lone tree at Benjamin Sear Bridge, the we shall meet at Marina South MRT, if the old tree at Expo, then will be Expo MRT. maytbe Dennis says that meet at Bugis MRT without coming out from MRT station ? Meet at the station control before proceed to destination ?

Ooops Penda, so where to meet. I am Ok at all MRT and any time. :)

I still like the first one better.
2nd one somehow the reflection does not match leh, and the glow also not so natural. I doubt it can be done to be the same as IR film.
I think the glow must also comes with grain.
Just my 2cents worth. Anyway nice pic, post more. Hope I can get to your level I would be happy already.

Thanks Dennis, I prefer the first one also. I think it's not possible to emulate the type of glow and grain as in film IR. Next time I will introduce some grain into a picture without creating the glow and see how.

I'm still learning and experimenting. Still a long way to go to shoot something like tomcat.

See you guys this Sunday.

Hi all IR guys,

I have been following this thread quite closely, been wanting to try IR on my Canon A80, so I bought a R72 filter yesterday to try. I realised that although I can get the IR effect, I can't seem to get focussed image. I tried manual-focusing first then put on the filter and shoot, but the image is still a little blurred and out of focus.

How can I actually get focussed image out of my A80 with R72 filter? How do you guys do it?

Lastly, can I join you guys for the outting tomorrow?

Thanks
Max

Sure would more than welcome.
BTW I don't have any of you guys HP, I believe PandaOng have some of them.
If you need to contact me my HP is 90176351
Anybody need me to give a morning wake up call also can let me know.
The service comes free if you want to join us but is worried that you cannot wake up on time :bsmilie:

Hi Max,

Most welcome, since you've been following this thread and you know where we're meeting tomorrow. Be there, we definitely would like to share and learn from anyone who's interested. We may not know the characteristics of the A80 but we certainly would like to understand and help with your problem.

See you, should be easy for you to locate the group around the Control Room.

Ok! Great, anyone have a 67mm filter? Wanna try out my20D with new EF-S 17-85. Dunno whether this lens can do IR or not. :dunno:

Hi Max 2.8

To get A80 to focus in IR, use the 2 sec timer and manual focus.
No need to take off the filter.
Just frame your scene, press the MF button and shoot.
Sorry, after some tests in Xiao Gui Lin, focusing is not consistent. Better to do MF and adjust focusing manually.
And always use a tripod. ;)

Dennis is right, not natural for a imitation of IR. I had accidently found a way to make a digital picture to look likes a colour IR pic, I am not good at PS so maybe someone expert might enlighten us here. One problem I found is that the method i used can't make white to remain white, but worth to try out. I hope Tomcat maybe can share with us his technique :)

1 Open any colour picture prefer with blue sky and green vegetation.
2. go to Layer > Adjustment layer > channel mixer
3. It will pop up a window, just click OK
4 Channel mixer window appear, drag or type in R ( Red) bar / value to 40 %
5 Drag or type B value to 35 %
6 Now check the monochrome box
7 Uncheck again the monochrome box
8 Now drag the R value to higher percentage eg 180 %
9 Drag B channel bar to lower value eg -25% ( minus value )
10 Adjust the both value accordingly to get the effect

You'll see the green become red vegetation and blue sky remain blue, however not all pictures suitable to do this, especially if picture contain white cloud, due to colour cast appear.

Anyway no harm trying. Save me a lot on colour slide $$$ hee hee !!

ok....here's my take on it.
hehe..i adjusted the channels further until it looked ok to me :sweatsm:
