If everyone is contented with what the manufacturer is giving, you think the manufacturer will be motivated to progress? Canon has claimed that they have upgraded the LCD, but in actual fact is that the pixel density remains the same from donkeys years ago. Is that a true upgrade? Canon is playing this waiting game which I hate. They wait for people to catch up, and then they move. Why? Make more money? They have a 50MP 35mm Cmos sensor, but they are not implementing it. Why?
I understand businesses have to plan feature releases so as to maintain optimum leadership in their segments. That said, I don't expect Canon, for instance, to "show hand" on all of its goodies, coz they don't need to and an unwise move if they did.
I applaud them for cleverly wrestling pro market leadership position from Nikon with the two-pronged 1D and 1Ds strategies. However, it's their sheer "lack of imagination", or disdain they have for the rest of their segments that dishearten me. True, someone paying them $5000 for the 5D should not expect the level of attention received by one paying $12,000 for a 1Ds. But to have such an unimaginative linear perspective is nothing less than sheer naiveness. This reminds me of a hilarious scene from the comedy movie "Soul Plane" where they had "Upper class" and "Lower class" (coach) complete with coin-op luggage compartments.
