Having Fun with Shooting Film

Hi, I actually got it processed at Ruby so dont know how to do it. But most of the shot were overexposed 1/3 to 1 stop depend on lighting.
hi how did you develop tri-x push from 400 to 1600? i tried pushing from 400 to 1600 but i lost a lot of shadow details unlike yours.

Used a Super Program with A 24mm f2.8 lens on Kodak 400TX.

My very 1st roll of b&w film.

Pulled the exposure down by at least 1 stop in LR3. Found most b&W pics overexposed. Is this normal?

What time was the pic taken? IIRC super program has centre meter pattern. So if you meter for the building, the sky will be overexposed.

During bright day, perhaps you can try yellow/orange filter to balance the exposure a little bit.

Pic was taken early morning... sun had risen abit already. Too busy with the digital to have done the film earlier :-)

Yeah the centre weighted metering is probably why i have this overexposed sky. I left the cam on AE priority and then just shot. Looking at the picture, the centre portion is still the building so thatr could explain it.

Yes, thanks for the tip on yellow/orange filters. I will certainly give that a read!

Btw, if you were to shoot this scene without a filter, where would you meter off? The sky? The water?

It depends...

If you going to stand develop your b&w film, you can expose for the highlight. The result is your negative is lack of contrast, but this can be fixed later during scanning.
Introduction to Stand development | Daniel Hewes Photography

For normal development, you can expose for shadow and develop for highlight.
Expose for the Shadows - Develop for the Highlights

Otherwise just bring grey card and meter to the grey card (midtone). Or if you bring your dslr, you can shoot using it and use the same setting. or do bracketing :bsmilie:

As usual, you are a never-ending font of answers to our many and varied questions, my friend!

I must admit i know totally nothing about developing film and i leave it to the shops to do so (this batch was done by Konota). So how do i know if they will develop it in the way that you want it? (assuming i even remember whether i over or under expose)...

You can always ask the lab to push/pull, or request them to scan as is without any sharpening, contrast adjustment, etc.

Does your lab charge for push/pull?
Cause FotoHub does :(

alright... thanks for the info. pblm is you have to know beforehand whether you over or under exposed right?

anyone had good experiences with the shop at Burlington? Triple D is it?

Yes, I go to them (TripleD) regularly. But they don't develop B&W daily (I know they develop on Tuesdays). Can look for Mike

Some trial shots with Ilford Delta400. After trying several types, I still prefer TriX.

Shot using MZ5 and FA43

Thanks! How much do they charge to develop and how much do they charge to scan?

Color Devt 35mm $3
B&W 35mm and 120mm $5
Haven't used their scan service but I think they only go to 1Mp.Can call them 62244006. By the way, I'm not affiliated to them in any way. Just have been dropping by there a few times in the past two weeks for development of film
