so how's the shooting for today at punggol point?? didnt join in the first place cos initially i need to do something... but then after that, decided to head there to meet you guys but when i reached, it was raining already... so turn back home again...

me ah....i'm the one who came in late for class today.. cos i cant find my way... driving round and round anchorvale... FYI, me a sis, not bro :o... the one with the red bag .... :)

oh, macro shooting.. i like.. but tml macro shooting cant make it.. cos i have something on liao...

so who are parampita and killingB?

I didn't know you were in the class?!?! I thought you'd flown us a pigeon. Anyhoo, Cecil was just saying about the direction of the sun, aperture and lallang.. I'd just whipped my cam out, haven't even power on 绵绵细雨 liao. Unfortunately, our cameras not so 浪漫 to frolic in the rain so we packed up and left for some shopping mall.

.. even when rain start to fall, Kenn still want to show me the DOF in his LCD, maybe his S8000 is waterproof one ;p

Kenn is the hunky guy sitting in the middle, killingb is the handsome one sitting behind him. I am the spiky hair fella who tell those late comers "Oi, bro! The screen is behind you."

Didn't notice the red bag as we were so focused in the lecture :p Like Kenn, I was expecting you to be a bro. Maybe it's your nick, impression quite 猛男 type.

For tomorrow morning shoot, u not free, killing b too tired, Kenn want to zzz.. :sticktong I will go alone, hope it won't rain in the morning.

I think parampita over shoot until the prosumer become invincible can shoot F/11 like DSLR :bsmilie:

Swee boh? Other than F/11, I still have another F/10! My super limited camera gone crazy already.

Kenn, you want background blur is it something like this? Taken at F/3.5. The figurines are placed half an inch apart.

DOF-front.jpg

This is also at F/3.5, the focus is the other way. Front blue, back clear. I still have another one where all are in focus but that kind of boring.
DOF-back.jpg

To a certain extend, still can play a bit with DOF. P&S like that quite ok liao lah.
:)

Sorry a dumb newbie question. About your figurines photo. You said to get all in focus is boring. But I want to know how to get, instead of figurines using real people all in focus including the cake in front of a birthday party. I have a Panny with face detection off, I can get the faces in focus but not the cake. I have asked many shops for advice but all are unable to help. Thinking of getting the Fuji 8100fd with more features but will it give me what I want?

I think it is easier for me to get bokeh. I am myopic.

This coming kopi session, bring your cam out, see see a bit lah.

I saw your other thread. You were pondering between f100 and S8100 right? Looking at the specs it F100 seems more advanced, but the S8100 will be useful for learning and, of course, fun.

Dun worry what newbie question. I'm also a newbie. If I want to get everything in focus then I just close up the aperture.

Big aperture = shallow depth of field.
Small aperture = deep depth of field.

If you have the camera with you now just try with something, anything also can. Try now and post it up, have a look.

Thank you for your quick response. Looks like I have to upgrade from my p/s to one with manual controls. Don't think the F100fd has those where I can fiddle around with the aperture. What is the point of paying for face detection technology if it makes other things out of focus. I say all this because I have to take some photos of ladies with this craze for nail art. I need to focus on their faces as well as their nails.

Actually I, on the other hand, didn't use the Face Detection function before. I keep telling myself I will press the button to activate it but when I start shooting, I forget!

I think if you just want to take people + cake or ladies + fingernails, even if no manual controls also can also make it. You just need to try out the various modes. The F100fd is really conv to pocket around (and I like it's bigger and better sensor). I am not bashing the S8100, I am an S8000 user. What I am trying to say is unless you are prepared to lug the S8100 in a bag and play with the functions, the F100fd is more suited to casual shots.

Kenn, JBK, killingb and I will be meeting this week for kopi. Why not you join us? Try out our S8100/S8000 (for free) before you spend your money.
