Thanks. I didn't buy the camera.
Wanted to know if this can be done coz I find this instant preview a nuisance.

how do i take clear shot of a big table full of dishes? its always focusin on one and the rest are blur. i changed to higher apperture but why does all my pics always look blur and dull even set to auto. is my camera spoilt? i hate my X100!

Hello X100 hater,
*Try with Aperture Priority with f/8. (Make use of the Distance Indicator at the bottom in EVF or LCD, The white horizontal bar tells u from which distance to distance (DOF) your focus will be maintained and the red vertical bar tells u the distance between you and your focused subject.)
*Use tripod if u're in low light.
*Use ISO Auto (if u're not sure which ISO to be set.)

The easy way is try using a camera phone instead, it might get u results immediately =)
Anyway if you want to learn more google up on depth of field.
eg (first result). Understanding Depth of Field in Photography
Smaller aperture means your shutter need to open longer to get enough light in. Most of the time everything would be blur since it is quite impossible to be perfectly still when taking a picture. So, turn up the lights, turn up the ISO, tuck in your chicken wings, hold your breath, use a tripod, etc to take a steady shot.
If it still does not get the depth of field u want then u probably need a tilt lens (and another camera) to bend the rules a little.

The firmware update Ver.1.11 incorporates the following issues.
1.Performance of auto focus at near distance has been improved.
2.When "SHADW TONE" is set to "MEDIUM SOFT" or "SOFT", live view in LCD may display with abnormal pattern (so-called "solarisation") just after pressing the shutter halfway. This update improves the phenomena.
3.When self-timer mode is selected, focus and exposure (AE/AF) are set just after pressing the shutter button and these settings are remained for the final shutter releasing.
I'm still waiting for them to include Auto-ISO in the ISO menu so that I don't have to menu-dive when I want to change from Auto to fixed ISO.

Due to the large sensor and f2 lens, if u can focus one is sharp the rest is blur, it''s ok as the depth of field is less if u compare to a small sensor.
If u increase the aperture like f8 etc, u may experience shake as there is less light going in and the shutter speed will decrease. To counter, u may need a steady hand / tripof or increase iso setting.

out of focus blur. only those in e small green focus box is clear, every other things are blur...
By e way i bought a multi coated uv filter for $38 and e stop assistant told me i can screw on directly, but after screwed on, i cant do macro shots. camera kept asking me to turn off and on the camera. i would suggest a non multi coated if you are thinking of screwing it on directly without the adapter as the multi coat is affecting the camera focus cos it is screwed on the lens on the opposite direction

That's one of the main reason people buy this camera. If you don't want the shallow dof, you can stand further away or stop down the aperture and increase iso and/or use flash.
