Fuji X100 - Part 2

the lens will focus in and out (black part of the lens) especially in macro mode. U may alway feel some"vibration" when u turn it on as the aperture opens....not sure that answer your question.

Hello all,

what i meant was the whole black area on the lens (Camera is OFF, not operation). U can tap it with a bit of force and it is shaking slightly right?

I'm not sure it is normal. got to go for some display set and test it.

hi. guys.

1st, where to buy the camera?
Cathay? Alan photo? MS color? or other better store?

Any one encounter the EVF misalignment issue?

Thanks!

I got mine from SLR Revo.

If you are referring to the parallax error in OVF, no issue here just turn on frame correction in the menu. :)

how much you get it for? I am also interested in the FUJI x100 and what comes with it?

Hi Guys,

A question about the X100, how do I get it to display the picture on the LCD after I take a shot, seems to only be visable to me when I change the display time to continuous?

Anyone know what the min focus distance for non-marco mode?

And lastly how do I use the LCD to take photos instead of the EVF or OVF?

Thanks so much for you help!

Can only answer the last one..press the button "Disp Back" next to the raw button. Press till it show a lve view on LCD.

2nd question..I based on trial n error...for closer non-macro min focus, use EVF only..

If you switch on the scale to measure the distance it is 0.1 of a metre or 10 cm being the minimum.

Hi, just sold all my canon system. is it a good idea to go for a x100? Is the IQ as good? need some advice. thanks

Hi,
Not a good idea as it is a fixed lens, you are going to limit yourself unless you always using 35mm otherwise you might end up getting frustrated as the focusing is slower than a DSLR. I use it as an alternative to my DSLR but I will still go back to it when I need to capture a range of subjects. As for IQ, it is really good only under the right lighting and you can manipulate the camera settings fast enough.

i think that would depend on what you're really after..i sold my pentax dslr gears away and picked up a x100. No regrets. As long as you know the capabilities of the x100/its limitation, and still think it fits your bill it shud be fine. As for me, i decided to forego the burden of lugging around all my dslr gears when i go out and choose the simplicity of the x100. It gives me the feeling of going back to the basics of photography, i can forget about all the changing of lens and gears. Just get out there and enjoy photography for what it is. :D

I have X100 and 7D, honestly speaking the IQ in X100 is better, noise is less pronounced.
But yes if i only bring my X100, sometimes i miss the super wide and tele length option in DSLR

I agree - if you’re talking about High ISO noise, the X100 is at least one entire stop better than the 7D at ISO 3200. In fact, at ISO1600, the X100 has more than a stop advantage. With Careful NR, even 6400 shots are quite usable. Like this:

However the 7D has more resolution, so if you shrink the image down to 12mpx of the x100, the disparity will be lessened.

i always believe the fastest auto focus and metering is human brain and human eye. it olden days, we memorized all sunny rules 16, exposure matrix and lighthing compensation rules. so it is apply to all SLR and range finder. Even when all electronic devices and metering failed, you can still shoot well if you know how to do manual EV compensation. At worst scenarios, with any aid of old school flash. With the latest advance electronic technolgy, human skill are gradually compromised and often neglected the basic foundenmental of photography - Seeing Lights.

i myself kept a piece of russian FED3 range finder, this piece of metal monster weight almost 600gms++ without any electronic metering inside, it is all manual focusing and and manual shutter release, guess what? it produce one of the sharpest image amongst my camera collection.

"The greatest camera is the human eye behind every single camera lens, hence is the photographer, not the camera itself. The camera is just a piece of tools to achieve and records what we want to show in future"

So i fully agreed with what you have said in this forum. X100 is a range finder type of camera, not even consider a 4third system PnS cam.

Dear all X100 users,

I have a serious question for AEL/AFL function.

I use AEL/AFL for EXPOSURE LOCK only. First, I took the meter reading. I locked the exposure by pressing AEL/AFL button.

* My question here now is that after I locked the Exposure, I CANNOT switch the focus frame again.

I used AEL/AFL button for exposure lock only but not focus lock. Why I cannot switch the focus frame again?

Is this normal or bug or happen only to me? Pls kindly enlighten me. Thanks guys.

Are you on Manual mode?

Hi ZoomZ,

It is with AF-S.

That's weird. Just tested mine. It will focus after I pressed the AE-L button.

What do you mean when you "cannot switch the focus frame"? Do you mean that after pressing the AE-L button, it cannot auto-focus anymore?

It will focus definitely.

What I mean was after I lock the exposure, the exposure will be locked. Right? After I locked it, I still want to move my focus frame again to the subject that I wanted to shoot. (Switching the focus frame is that you hold the AF button + moving around by command dial).

Are you able to move the focus frame again after you lock the EXPOSURE ONLY? Thanks.
