First Impressions : Nikon D800

You might like to note that the DX
mode of the D800 happens to have 15MP.

Yes we noticed. If you are happy with using the current range of DX units, carry on do not buy the D800.
If you are interested in the ability to crop deeply into a file so that the resultant file has sufficient resolution and detail to print large - then start considering the D800. Cannon played that card for years - more MP = cropped files still having enough resolution rather than Nikon if you crop then you may need to interpolate to appear to create enough pixels but may have not enough resolution. Look at the 5D's.

If you are ok with that then yes it is ok.

So I guess birders who keep a DX format camera just for birding can do so now with just the D800 by using the DX mode or cropping the full 36mp.

I would really think its a high possibility. Even macro shooter benefit from this.

Just thinking of all the possibilities makes me smile. My 17mm will look right again. And I still get to keep the crop factor if I need. The 50mm and 35mm will also feel right.

ur D800 will be shooting for better lenses lol.

it seems that the 36.3MP are unforgiving to camera shake, so more technique and skills are needed

in the case of the 18-200 lens, there is always the Nikkor 28-300 VR

I am.. primarily one of the reasons why I'm getting the D800 as well.

That would also mean that there is no immediate need to change lenses to FX from DX if u were to upgrade to D800. However, some point in time u will... no doubt abt it.

i'm also thinking of 16-35 VR...but not sure if it's gd for shooting people. the distortion seems quite bad at 16mm.

Probably most D800 adopters are ex D700 users. They total didn't realize/bother with this new feature

As a nikon user, I suggest you not to..... unless you are still using entry level camera with kit lens or found compiling reasons to move, stay where you are from. The 5Dmk3 may make u regret later.

The thing that we have to aware about this "MP Monster" is about lens capability.
Not many Nikkor lenses could serve this D800 optimally...

Tripod might be a must include item to mention, maybe can counter reference with other body's technical guide?
