First Impressions : Nikon D800

A camera with built in 1.5x TC. Sui! :bsmilie:

Hi, may I ask what does this mean?
Are you referring to the DX format where the image size is 4800x3200?

yeah, something along that line...

are the pins of the MB-D12 same as the MB-D10? Mine got no contact very often -.-" ... And dunno y Nikon doesn't wanna increase the speed to 6/8fps (at least for jpegs) on full frame with the use of the grip like the D300/s ...

Hi pros who have tried it...

Can anyone comment about these 2 very important points regarding D800;

1. Has AWB on D800 improved over the D700? D700 AWB was really, really bad compared to D3/D3s/D300/D300s.

2. Has AF accuracy with f1.4 lenses improved? The D700 did a decent good job with most lenses but now we are talking abt THIRTY-SIX megapixels.

the cameras at the launch were prototypes, so no judgement can be made,
i was told that "it can only get better"

but so far what i see, is that i am really impressed with what i saw

I am glad Nikon announced the D800, I was just about to buy the D700.

The great news is the AF-S or AF lenses fully compatibility. Metering with AI lenses.
This will be great to use back the old lenses. great review. Thanks.

"it would make perfect sense for Nikon to cram the 16Mp, FF sensor of the D4 into a D300 body, call it the D400, and sell it for $2,000."

I think this guy fail marketing...

I would believe D400 would be a DX 16.2 mp camera though, but no way a FX sensor or a D4 sensor. That guy is crazy.

Some say the D800 is probably using the D7000 scaled up to FF. But I think it could be a new sensor, and the D400 would be scaled DOWN DX version of the D800 sensor.

Anyway, that guy is living in dream-land.

although his idea of D400 would be pretty ideal..

Yes, it's a pretty ideal: Cheaper, Faster & Better.

Crazy or not, I hope Nikon will listen to him cos I like his idea. ;)

I think nikon did an experiment previously with D3X and D3S.

They wanted to know how much they can price their DSLRs. Is customers willing to pay for resolution or ISO performance?

It makes sense for nikon to differentiate the D4 vs D800 more than D3 vs D700.

I think D3X must not have sold very well..... so nikon decided the D800 will get the high res sensor while customers will be willing to pay for high ISO performance and reserved the high ISO sensor for D4.

I guess they will launch a D800s maybe 1 year later with D4 sensor when all the customers has bought the D4.

From the images on the net, I am getting excited to shoot one when it is out

Most people have forgotten that we have been having cameras with excellent DR and Noise characteristics from sensors of similar pixel density for over half a year already. So all this bitching is pointless.

Out of curiosity, which camera or sensor is that?

You might like to note that the DX
mode of the D800 happens to have 15MP.
