my coy is supporting me to upgrade to a better camera.
i'm looking at canon 7D and nikon D700.

7d kit is 18MP @ $2900 +/- (but is a crop frame right?)

d700 body only is 12.1MP @ $3600 +/- (FX) (but only 12.1MP w/o video)

if budget is not an issue, which one is a better buy?

personally, i would prefer to hv video, high MP n is full frame. (dont tell me 5dMK2)
but if is 7d, plz explain why is better than a d700.


i shoot more on landscape n portrait.

Some question on 7D shutter button. It's doesn't have the tactile feel like the 40D. Is that normal? Has Canon redesign the shutter button mechanism?

feels pretty good to me, have not touched the 40D before tho...so can't compare.

possible change due to the addition of weather sealing around the buttons

According to Canon, the shutter sound has been re-engineered after listening to feedback from users. Prsonally, I still like the louder shutter sound of my 30D.

no. 5D2 is better of course. 7D is prob has the best crop camera iso capabilities but 5D2 is still quite abit better

in my eyes, its about 1/2 - 2/3 stop difference between 5D2 and 7D.

The 7D is actually "nicer" to use/in use than the 5D2 ....

Oops sorry, I misunderstood you..yeah, I was talking about the sound. As for tactile feel, I dun feel much difference..

The 7D is actually "nicer" to use/in use than the 5D2 ....

Agreed... 5D2 definitely has the advantage over 7D in terms of high ISO noise, but 7D has a slightly nicer feel in use. Can't really put a finger on it though... maybe it's the more contoured grip, maybe it's the bigger buttons, maybe it's the customisable controls and layout or maybe it's simply psychological. :dunno:

I own a EX580 MkI, but the camera doesn't allow me to set 2nd curtain sync, I have to do it on the flash itself.

Anyone with similar experience with the 7D/EX 580 MkI combo?

Hi I was talking about wireless flash, Canon's current speedlites don't allow for 2nd curtain sync when used wirelessly.


Anw 580EXI cannot be controlled on the camera.
