EOS 7D user,information sharing thread.

HI , just wanna to ask
Can 7D control 2 external 430 Flash without firing its own flash ? do we need a wireless transmitter or a 580 flash as master ?

theorically yes you will be able to do so... howeve the built in flash will need to be extended and will fire but will not be captured in the frame hence = no flash...

Hi ,

Any recommendation on which OEM wired/wireless shutter remote to use. Hopefully can use for both 550D and 7D.

The wired remote shutter connector type is different for XXXD and XD series.

You can call Canon to check if the Canon RC-5 Wireless Remote Controller can be used for both models.

Thanks for sharing the information! Mine has this sound since day 1 so it sounds normal to me since it wasn't causing any issue. Not sure if it will really impact anything.

Thats what i think too..But I'll prob drop by the Canon Store @ Vivo today and see if their units have it..

I see. Not sure if I'll have the time to go down...

so, any confirmation of that self cleaning problem??

well,i went to the Canon Store @ Vivo, tried the one on display..and it was making a even louder noise :) . i guess its normal behavior, though i don't know y the the writer of the articles mentions it to be silent.

evilorgi and Novjoe , thks for the update ,, emm will try once i get my second 430 flash

faster AF,ISO settings range from 100 to 6400, and are expandable to 12800 (at the H setting), while dual DIGIC 4 processors, the 1st canon eos got built in wireless flash same like olympus E3 and E30...

Thanks Shin, my thinking was that the RC1 & 5 uses infra red and so is useful when I am at the front aiming at the sensor. For tripod, thinking of those that have wireless and wired remote .... Canon's is like very EX ...

Have checked mass sales Phottix wired and wireless, any bros here using that Cleon 2 I think...

My new 7D has the sound too. It’s a soft, but audilble “szzip, szzip”. May the ones in the article had cleaning turned off? thats why no sound?

Hi,
My take using the 7D @ RWS. As you can see, these are snap - walkabout shots @ diff ISO settings i.e. 100, 640 and 3200 respectively :

Hmm.. I remember my third-party wired remote is able to work with both XXXD and XD camera. It's time like this that I had bought a third-party in the first place...

Bought phottix cleon 2 for 7D and extra cable so can attached to 550D .... works quite well this morning .... no longer have to wait 2 / 10 secs

Those RWS pics look great and are sharp! I guess I made a wise decision in buying the 7D

Canon started installing automatic sensor cleaning systems in all EOS Digital SLRs starting with the Digital Rebel XTi in the 1st Half of 2007. The list of EOS models with self-cleaning sensor units now includes:
EOS Digital Rebel XTi (400D)
EOS Rebel XSi (450D)
EOS Rebel T1i (500D)
EOS Rebel XS (1000D)
EOS 40D
EOS 50D
EOS 5D Mark II
EOS 7D
EOS-1D Mark III
EOS-1Ds Mark III
EOS-1D Mark IV

All of these cameras use one or more piezoelectric vibrators to shake the front plate of the cameras' low-pass filter in order to dislodge dust particles. There have been several variations in the design of the piezoelectric components according to the vintage of the camera, but the operating principle is basically the same for all of them. There is nothing particularly unique about the self-cleaning sensor unit of the 7D; in fact, it uses the same hardware as the self-cleaning sensor unit of the 50D. With both of these cameras, the operating sound of the self-cleaning mechanism is audible, but the sound level is quite low. Many people can hear it, but for various reasons many others cannot. This may account for the variety of reports one can find on the web concerning this topic.
In any case, because it is a normal operational sound, it is not a cause for concern.

bro, the pre-flash (despite minimal) will still be captured so its best to block it with something.
