Why not? 24-70 f2.8L is weather sealed mar rite?shoot through ziploc bag..
i would not mind paying some extra for weather sealing on a 400D.. given a K10 n 400D, i would still choose 400D due their functions n features of the 400D compared to the k10. Canon has a greater variety of lenses compared to Pentax. If Pentax has better features n more lenses than Canon, i might have chosen Pentax instead..
But then again, it be impossible for Pentax to catch up wif Canon..

I'm not sure every newbie would. You're writing this from the POV of someone who already owns a Canon dSLR. If it's someone totally new to dSLR, I suspect the choice would more likely be the Nikon D80, should the 400D's price go up.
Don't write bluntly; Pentax optics are excellent.
quite true siah.. as long as lens weather sealed can leow... cut a hole and protrude half the lens out :bsmilie:
well, do u think camera products will increase?? i doubt so.. new products will always be released..
Pentax products - i would appreciate their weather sealing for the k10 is an added value feature.. good job by them..
Sorry what do you mean by "camera products will increase"
Isn't that the same as new models being released? All companies release new products every now and then; to not release a new product is to shoot yourself in the foot, chest, then the head as a business.
camera prices rarely increase only decreases..
Dear TS,
have u gotten the info tt you need?
It's a good lens.. really. Get's u hooked on Ls.
Weight wise, I personally don't mind the weight if I'm getting tt kind of great pics. It's my walk around lens. I've even carried around a 70-200L 2.8 IS on my 30D for a day. Can't say no sweat but it was worth it.
If you're worried abt weight, why wait for the IS version? like sequitur said... IS will add to the weight. And at this range, IMO, IS will only be an asset in super adverse situations. My friend has used this in zouk with great results... no IS..
basically, you get wat u paid for.
hi guys,
i'm really new here. have this question i like to ask about this lens. i'm currently using the EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM.
thinking of upgrading, should i get the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM or EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM?
i really want a L lens and i dont mind paying for the 2.8L, but i've heard that the 4L being a newer lens, the pictures are sharper and quality is better than the 2.8L. of course i'll lose out cos its only a F4, but i have a 50mm F1.4 and i hardly take pics at that big an aperture anyway....
any recommendations on the 2 lens? anyone had tired them both?
Firstly, are you upgrading because you need it or is it a want. From what you're writing, it sounds entirely like a want. Then I say, don't buy either and shoot with your 17-85 first.
Are you limited by the 17-85 in any way? I shouldn't think so, because you already said you don't shoot at wide apertures.
haha... well, i'm upgrading cos i want to, also cos i'm a little tired of the 17-85 and its image quality, not that its bad, but i know i can get better.
actually i am facing some limitations with my lense. i've been shooting with my 17-85 for about 2 years now. image at the extreme ends of the lense isnt fantastic, and i'll prefer something with a wider aperture (there's only so much a F5.6 can do). thought of getting the F2.8 but its a little heavy (i travel almost 2 weeks out of every month) and i thought the F4 will be a little better for my purpose. but the fact that the F2.8 is one of the best lense canon has ever made makes my decision a really hard one.
what would you buy if you had the choice? i take mainly portraits and landscapes.
so what i've come down to is to decide which one give better image quality, i mean, thats why everyone wants a L lense right? the aperture i can live with.. its which one of the two is a better lense that i wanna find out before making that purchase. does the F4, being a newer lense means it have better optics? i've heard talks like that going around....
it'll be perfect of canon makes a 24-70 F2.8 IS USM soon!

This consideration is not new... I struggled with the decision for months before I decided on the 24-105L cos I prefer 1 lens for general walkaround.. 105 reach further and less heavy. IS is also a bonus...
so are you happy with the buy? =) or is the F4 a little lacking?
