of course you use both hands to shoot, but you can't be holding the camera in both hands through the whole event/day can you?

i don't know how to explain to you more accurately, but i'm sure as many others have pointed out, many others think it's true as well. perhaps one day when you do get to hold it will you understand what i'm saying.

(and by the way, yes, last time i did not understand too, till i got to the current setup.)

something like that, yes. :)

i just thought of an example,

it's just like you have a really very very heavy plastic bag, and you're holding it by the loops, and you can feel it's damn heavy, and the loops are cutting your hand.

but if you actually are able to use your wrist to grab the middle of the plastic bag (let's say it's like a plastic bag with like a bottle of 1.5L coke or something), and you hold the coke bottle by the middle in the plastic bag - the weight is the same, but you feel like you can hold the bottle for a much longer time than if you hold it by the plastic bag's loops.

Wow.. good analogy... but need to save a long time to experience that... 1D setup

buy 2nd hand lor..

1D mk1 now quite cheap.. and it's still very good what. although its "only" 4mp, can la it's not difficult to blow up the pic at all.

I got you now... it is the anticlockwise moment that straint your wrist since the lens heavy and the body is light...

the ID is heavier than the lens rite..

dun have to spend money to test out.. hold a 3kg item and simulate it like a camera would save the money.. hehe..

Hi guys,
i am in BKK at the moment...the 24-70 is about bht 46700..

I carried my 30D and 24-70L around for almost 8 hours a day for 6 weeks as my walkaround lens on holiday with no real problems. You just get used to the weight and it doesn't become a problem anymore...tho having a flash on the camera puts it slightly out of balance on the body side.

I think that with the 20/30/5D the balance is about 50:50 lens/camera - which is ideal.

If I was carrying it on a 350/400D then i think my fingers might crap on the smaller grip and lighter body.

It is a solid performing lens with great optics and also takes a beating. The weather sealing is a bonus.

weather sealing works if u have a weather sealed body...otherwise it offers false confidence...

^ that's why it's just a bonus for me - since i don't have a weather sealed body. tho it did give me confidence my lens would survive when my friend kicked snow off the great wall onto my lens which ended up melting.

i come this statement many times.. too bad canon dun offer weather sealed bodies for their bodies like nikon and pentax.. canon should change their design.. hehe..

Provided the snows lands only on the lens and not the body. :bsmilie: Else the lens could be damaged via the body.

Errrm. The 1-series has weather-sealing. The old EOS-1 film cam also had weather sealing (this one's known to be quite a tank).

What??? All Canon 1-series cameras are weather sealed.

The joke is that Nikon and Pentax do not have as many weather sealed lenses as Canon. :)

nikon n pentax dslr have some weather sealings.. for canon, only the 1D series has weather sealing.. 5D, 30D, 400D dun have weather sealing lor.. information regarding the weather sealing can be found @ www.dpreview.com, do read up on the different models of camera full review, u can see various types of dslr skeleton casing and information on their weather sealing body..

think canon should incl. weather sealin for their lower range dslrs as welll..

And then people will complain, "Why so expensive?"

Besides, Nikon have them in the D1/D2 and D100/200 series. It's not as if the D80 has weather sealing.

some ppl will also complain, y nikon d200 n pentax k10 can have weather sealing , but not canon 400D n 30D..

Because the D200 and K10 are not on the same level as the 400D (which is nowhere near the same level as the D200) and the 30D.

Put weather sealing on a lower end body and up the price. You'll see immediately why people go for other systems.

Market strategy-wise, it's just not a good idea because you'll drive consumers towards the better bargain; most people starting to delve into the SLR system will not prioritise weather sealing of a very high importance, and so, would most likely not opt to pay the extra for weather sealing, on a low end body.

It's more than making users happy. It's about attracting newer users by cutting unnecessary (read: not needed at a given level) corners.

i would not mind paying some extra for weather sealing on a 400D.. given a K10 n 400D, i would still choose 400D due their functions n features of the 400D compared to the k10. Canon has a greater variety of lenses compared to Pentax. If Pentax has better features n more lenses than Canon, i might have chosen Pentax instead.. But then again, it be impossible for Pentax to catch up wif Canon..

Well, there's always the good ol' cheapo ziploc bag to fall back to. :bsmilie:
