I hope Nikon at least disable auto ISO in M mode in D90. To me, it is a "inconvenient" feature when in M mode.
Auto ISO can be disabled on D80 for manual mode.
I'm pretty sure it will be the same for the D90.
Auto ISO can be disabled, on the D80 and D2h too.
Thanks and I know that, but my point is when one choose to shoot in M mode, all the auto features should be disabled, including auto ISO. There should not be a need to disable auto ISO manually when shooting in M mode.
While you may not find a need, others do find it useful even more so for pros. That is why it is a feature even the D3 and D700 have it.![]()
anyone speak German can translate this?
yeah (the image was from there), but it doesn't actually have a translation... which was why I asked if anyone could translateRefer to this ...

PE,
I might not have made my meaning clearer. While I certainly love the auto ISO in other modes like A, S etc, but not when I switch to manual mode. In my view, the auto ISO should be automaticaly disabled in M mode, because this is the time I want to manipulate exposure, yet the auto ISO would try to compensate the brightness.......of course I can go to menu and turn it off, but it is 麻烦 , it is why I regard auto ISO in M mode as a inconvenient feature, ..... of course I have to itterate, I love auto ISO...in all other modes.
Could you enlighten me why do the pros prefer to have auto ISO in M mode?
if the rumour is true, its 27 which is 10 more days before launch;p , (if it is true):dunno:
10 more days, at the start of page 10wow!
......
You may ask why not use Aperture priority or Speed priority with Auto ISO, the difference is control of 2 of the 3 elements vs control of 1 of the 3 elements. ie Aperture, speed and ISO (ASA).
.... But having it is a plus for many of us.

I see, anyway it's easy to disable auto ISO on the camera.
In fact, auto ISO did saved by butt once, was covering a wedding as main photographer, using manual mode, and auto-ISO. During the couple's entrance, I've didn't tilt down the flash, and the pictures were underexposed. Luckily the auto-ISO help to boost up the exposure.
PE also gave a good explanation and usage, thanks!
Thanks PE for your detail explanation. I guess it is my limited shooting experience that I fail to appreciate the advantage of auto ISO in M mode.
Thanks once again.
