Thanks for all the replies and encouragement, guys! Actually i wanna own a lens myself and I've been reading up and practicing for a week. But my bro is away for a 5-days trip and he took the lens kit leaving me "crippled" now with just the body. I guess I'm too eager to buy a lens. I shall take everyone's advice and wait for my bro's return so i can practice more wif the kit lens. Hopefully, i can learn the least basics for my Europe trip next month.

Yeah, it's a great birthday present but I've to spend time and commitment to learn photography and it is not easy! I'm not giving up! I believe i shall improve with wonderful CS members like you guys around.

just got the D90..

got the Sigma 50mm f1.4 together with the kit lens..
the Sigma lens is very sharp..

gonna bring it down for calibration soon..
making it even sharper?..

If it is front or back focusing, it will not be sharp. If it is already sharp, calibration will not make it more sharp. And if already very sharp, calibration might make the lens not sharp...

Having a camera without a lens & vice-versa is pretty useless. Going for holidays, be it far or near, if you don't capture the sights, its a waste. Its a dilemma deciding on which lens to take with you. So you have to consider carefully. Think about it ;)

huh? dun understand...negative negative don't always give positive:bsmilie:
calibrate your screen if you wana make it sharper, unnecessary calibration on lens screws it up only...

read from one of the guys in the forum that after calibration it will be even sharper.. :dunno:

If it ain't 'broken', why 'fix' it. Detail peep? Since you already mentioned it's sharp already. :dunno:
Even so, the outcome does not always what you expected it to be.

You only send it in for calibration if where you focus is sharp but it's visibly sharper slightly behind or slightly in front. Other than that, forget it. It won't get any better.

You really think calibration is like sharpening a knife is it? :bsmilie:

Hey guy,

Need your opinion if which combination is better as i am thinking of getting a flash.

1) D90 + 18-200vr1 + sb600
2) D90 + 18-200vr1 + sb800
3) D90 + 18-200vr1 + di688

or any other 3rd party flash to recommend? sb900 is abit out of my budget so i am nt considering yet.

I intend to use the flash mostly in pub or indoor area where bands will be performing.

So appreciate your experiences, kindness in providing the advices....;)

Good camera choice! :)

If you shooting in a pub and indoor area. Get a wide aperture lens, probably a prime lens to suit your budget.

18-200 more for walkabout, travel, for your convenience sake's lens.

Hi bro, i have my reason for using the 18-200 len. thus i need a flash to compensate the low light condition. ;) ... so i hope to know which type of flash combine well with the len. :)

I ditto wmayeo's comment about getting a fast prime. For the price of the flash, depending on your style, 35/1.8, 50/1.8, 50/1.4 or 85/1.8. Push ISO up to 800 or 1600 and you should be able to capture the ambient light/mood.

But if you really want a flash, forget about 3rd party. You will have problems when you upgrade the body. Get the SB-600 or SB-900. If you can still find SB-800, by all means.

What we don't know is how far you're shooting from and distance is an important parameter in flash photography.

Newbie here! Just got a D90 and happy to be a part of CS community. D90 still nicely sitting in box. My first question, for UV filters is a must to use only those multi-coat types over normal types? Still havent decide which to get.
