haaa ask them to do a technical check 5 mins only, to stop ur worries =D,

Can you post a couple of them here with the EXIF information intact? So we can roughly know how bad the lighting is and what advice to give you.

erm i would like to post it but its a privaet event so not convenient to post it..

Please read your flash and camera manual. :)

mine is the builtin flash...only source is the cam manual..i do read but maybe nt enuff and im slow cos im new to photography and first time need to shoot indoor event
not using auto or P mode too...thrown me off for a while..

so pic actualli in my cam lcd looks nt too bad...onli in computer where more defects are shown...
no time to zoom in each pic to chck..glance thru lcd and seems ok so i tot the pic are still ok..

sometimes tinkin if using auto or P will yield better pictures..thats the delima for me..
but using auto or p will nvr improve my tech skill..

Auto or P is there for you to learn as well... If you're not sure how to set manually. Shoot a few Auto or P mode pix first, look at the EXIF... check how the camera sets the shutter speed, ISO, aperture... then try doing the same with the manual mode and then compare if the pix are similar... tweak the settings a bit and see what kind of effects will be shown. If you solely rely on Auto and P mode ALL the time, then... it's no different than using a Point n Shoot... But for beginners it is a good learning tool - like using the camera to teach you how to shoot "properly exposed" pix. I said that in quotation is because the pix taken in P and A mode may not be the BEST but certainly forms a bit of basic training...

Okie. Not a problem. :) Basically, familiarize yourself with the camera and metering. I'm suspecting a problem in your holding techniques or you were too hasty and already moving your camera before the shutter closes. I've made this kind of mistakes when I was starting out on event shots and they were expensive mistakes because I was shooting film then.

hey guys want to check with u, how high can we pump the ISO of D90 before the picture becomes kinda noisy.

3200 for me ... after that its pretty bad.. some ppl limit 1600 but i dont display my photo too big so 3200 still ok for me at least

1600 is limit for me. any higher will be case to case basis. :)

ya depend on the situation... i would prefer a noise photo anything to a blurred one...hehehe

get a flash if u keep taking indoor shots... i dont hv one but i seen the bounce effect... really nice

sorry.. what is the freebie u guys collecting from buying D90 now?

i am getting the GSS stuff lor

Hi guys,

I just got a D90 for as a b'day present!! I'm totally new to DSLR cameras and i'm still reading up the Nikon D90 Guide Book trying to understand the new concepts and theories of Aperture, ISO, Shutter speed etc etc....Well, i own the Nikon's body only and my bro is using the same model that comes wif the lens kit. I'm thinking of buying Tamron 18-270mm lenses. But the shop owner has tempted me with another choice - 17-50mm lens!

I'm going to Europe next month and if i should invest in 18-270mm or 17-50mm lens? Many shop owners have asked me what type of pictures do i wanna take? Sports, buildings, wildlife??? I have no idea at all...By the way, I heard 18-270mm Tamrom lens can take "macro" pics if i get a lens adapter too! I'm really confused now! Anyone can gimme some sound suggestions??:dunno:

I really depends on what you intend to shoot, really. So if you are unsure of what you want to shoot, just stick to the 18-105 kit lens for now. It is good enough.

As for the "attaching lens adapter" to 18-270 to take macro pics, you can do the same with your 18-105 kit lens. And if you do get a conversion lens, get a Raynox or close up filters.

I wish i can get a D90 as a gift like you do.
Still a newbie like yourself tho i started like 2 years ago. :bsmilie:
I believe most bros here will say the same. Why not borrow your bro's kit lens and snap around first. During this journey, see what type of pictures you like to take then invest on the lenses.

Btw, welcome to CS. ;)

Welcome to CS :)
You are a fortunate gal, having a D90 as BD present. You are doing the right thing, reading the manual. Try to understand the buttons & functions of the camera, shoot & practice more. Also try to understand how aperture, shutter speed, ISO, metering & the rest works.
Since you are new to DSLR, don't rush into buying lenses as yet, since your bro has the same cam as you, make use of his lenses 1st. Go perfect your skill through trials & errors. Along the way, you'll find something that you like to shoot & then concentrate on that. There could be more than one subject that you'll be interested in. From there, move in to get the lense that'll be useful to what you like to shoot.
The 18-270mm is a good all round lens. You have wide to zoom in one lens. Its good for travel as you don't have to carry a few lenses with you as weight could bore you down. The 17-50mm is a good range for walk about but you can't get a shot that's far away, say you are sitted at the top row of of a stadium trying to shoot the players on the pitch.
As for macro, its either you get a close-up filter (which is a cheaper alternative to beginners) to attach to the normal lens that you have or get a dedicated macro lens & of coz the price is much more than a filter.
So take your time to find out where your interest lies & then work towards that direction.
Happy shooting & hope to see your shots posted in the relevant galleries ;)

Check my these two shots

1. ISO 1600 hand held

2. Use of built-in flash

My auto ISO limit is set at 1600.

u mean u set all ur photo at ISO1600?

i am getting the GSS stuff lor

ya man. the bag, when i look in i straight away shake head... like ah pek bag can.. i think the only useful thing is the cleaning kit.

Today, I've gotten TWO accessories to pimp up my D90:

1) MC-DC2 remote control - tested and works grrrrrrrrreat!

2) DK-21M Eye piece, now I can ease the strain on my mark I eyeball when I do Macro work...

And something new I've just learnt about the D90 regarding mirror-lockup, it has NONE! :bsmilie: NOT talking about the lock-up for sensor cleaning...

Apparently this feature is replaced by the "exposure delay" function when using the remote control! (2 sec delay after mirror slaps to let all the vibrations settle down). Very important if you want to shoot long-exposure night scenes - this is for you newbies of D90!

Lastly I still haven't gotten a lens for the D90, but I'm looking into possibilities - learnt a thing or two about the venerable 85mm f/1.8D (pretty affordable too!)

Learning something new each day!
