question on file names... for my previous cameras, the file names will run from DSC0001 and will not reset even when all the photos are removed from my memory card... e.g, i shoot 300 photos today, when i remove the photos from memory card, the next photo i take will be DSC0301...

but now when i remove the photos, its restarts file naming from DSC0001... is there any way to make the file naming continuous?

for now, it starts counting from the last file name available...

if card is blank, starts from DSC0001
if card has a 3 photos, DSC0001, DSC0010, DSC0012, it will start from DSC0013

check out kenrockwell.com under D90, it provides a guide for every setting. That includes his own settings and what it means. There's a subsection for file naming sequence too.

hi all,

today i went to check the price of extra battery for D90, most of the shop sell third party without any brand printing on the battery, range from $18 the lowest to $55. But i look at it, it is the same thing, only different kind of box. When i ask for original Nikon battery, none of the shop recommend me to buy, they said the manufacturer is the same and the price is much higher, quoted at ard $65 to $90 + range.

So should i buy the lowest price $18 from SLR revolution?

They seems quite honest, and the price look really attractive. They did say many other shop quote too high and if I think it is risky then go for the original but the original also come from the same place just nicer package.

What you guys think?

i'm using phottix battery for about 6 months already, so far no issue

This topic has been discussed very vey thoroughly. My personal experience is that the 3rd party camera batteries do not last as long and after a few months, you will notice it will go flat faster between charges. And no, not all batteries come from the same place. There are thousands of factories manufacturing batteries. Are you sure the one you are buying come from the same production line of Nikon's? Most 3rd party batteries are made in China nowadays. The original ones are made in Japan. And no, not all batteries are equal. The choice of chemicals, materials do affect the quality of the battery. And internal circuitry also matters. Though I have never seen it happen to camera batteries, I have personally experienced sub-par china-made hand phone batteries explode during charging and also one time, had a 3rd party battery fry the electronics of my mobile phone (while using, not charging). Remember one thing, nothing is free in this world. If it is cheap, corners will have to be cut to get to that price point. A $18 battery will probably sell for $6 at the factory. Minus the factory margin and packaging, the cost to manufacture the battery is probably $3. So decide for yourself.

So, (1) there is definitely a risk to using 3rd party batteries. But if you are willing to take that risk and save $30, I'll say do it.
(2) There is certainly a performance difference between 3rd party batteries too. The cheaper ones seems to lose quite a bit of their capacity after a short while. So I recommend buying better 3rd party batteries, which cost more. Then you have to balance your risk/reward as mentioned in (1) again.
(3) How many batteries will you buy in the lifetime of your camera? Most will buy 1 more. People like me will buy 3 more. But will not buy anymore in the future. Sort of a one time purchase.

Yes you can. It is stored in the EXIF info in the picture you took. Use a EXIF viewer like Opanda IExif (free online). Use it to open your picture and all the info will be there, including one recording the shutter count.

how big is 85mm f1.4 on the D90? anyone have photos?

I got my new camera with shutter count of 800, but the first memory card used was the old card from the shop already with photos. I am not sure this was the cause of it. Anyone knows anything?
