hi .. ya. i think a new shutter assembly.. if does that so called "renew" the shutter count to zero. issit free before the warranty ends?

No one will ever renew your shutter count to zero. If they do that, this is considered as fraud.

The only time the shutter count can be considered to be reset to zero is when a brand new shutter assembly is installed.

And no, if your shutter is not broke, NSC will not install a new shutter assembly for you even if your camera is still in warranty. And if your shutter did break down, and NSC determined it to be user fault or normal wear and tear, they will not do it for free either.

I am one of them who convert myself from Canon to Nikon. Both are good brand for sure, just depends which you prefer. I learned about Canon system for a while and compare to my fren's Nikon and i was convienced that Nikon design is better for Photographer (purely personal opinion only), as you may think otherwise. Only after you try then you know.

Overall Canon lens cheaper than Nikon especially the higher grade one. I personally find that entry level camera and lens, comparatively speaking, Nikon is better.

i second this.
I used to own a canon system, until i found out about CLS, auto iso range, grid VF, metering and AF system on nikon.
Lens, megapixels and price maybe what most ppl would consider first and perhaps last.
You can also compare the minor features in the 2 systems to see what suit ur style of shooting. Then u can make more of an informed choice.

Seriously speaking, all cameras at this price range is about the same. Certain models/systems will have an edge in some areas but pretty much they are on par. These models I consider them in the same class:
Canon 500D, 50D,
Nikon D5000, D90,
Sony A500, A550,
Pentax K-x, K20D
Olympus E-620, E-30

And higher range:

Canon 7D, 5Dm2
Nikon D300s, D700
Sony A700, A850
Pentax K-7, (no FF for pentax)
Olympus E-3 (no FF for Oly)

In the end, the most important things are: 1) What features do you really need in your shooting style, 2)Which camera feels comfortable to hold and to use.

Hi hotzouk

U are very sure for $1677, you can get the canon 500D kit II(18-200) with additional (50mm f1.8),8GB card & bag? Wow, that's is really a good price!

One big feature why I choose any camera over another is the top LCD, the LCD shows you all the important settings at a glance. It's really a useful feature.

ya, i also like the LCD top.. yup for $1667 only if u trade in a canon old spoilt camera.

Hell No!

Look at other brands too. The new offerings from Sony and Pentax are very feature rich with very good performance with a much lower price tag than Canon or Nikon.
Sony A550
Pentax K-x

BTW the sensors in Nikon DSLRs are products of a joint effort with Sony. So A500 sensor should be the very similar to D90. A550 comes with a higher MP sensor. A500 and A550 are both released at the same time.

Don't flame me. Because I am a D90 user as well. Just that I want to be fair.

Thanks, but wat about SDHC cards and lenses etc.. is it cheaper from sitex?

I passed by lucky plaza today. Out of curiosity I asked some shops on D90 price. the one right front of the main entrance quoted me 1400, amazing price for a local set. Makes me wonder if there's hidden charges. John quoted me something like 1750

Ask claerly; Is the price for body only or kit set? Is price inclusive of GST?

I ever once called up a shop and they quoted me less than 1700 for the kit set. it was the best price i ever got. When asked further, only then he told me price is before GST. :nono:

Try asking other places, MSC and TK would be a good place for competitive price too based on most bros here.

Happy searching... ;)

SLR Revolution quoted $1630 for kit set, no freebies. Try out with them if you don't need those other stuff.

lol, a common trick by camera shop is to quote the price over the phone without kit lens or without GST. then after u arrive in the shop, they whack lens price and GST.

over the telephone, there is no record, so they will say anything to make u visit the shop.

if u ask for email quote, then the shop will be more careful and say "excluding GST"

Hi fellow D90 users

Does the D90 set comes with video editing software for joining videos?

I'm not at home now, so I can't check.

Thanks.

Not sure if any D90 users here able to advise me on this, i m considering between the D90 (18-105) price at around $1699 with card, bag and tripod and the canon 500D kit II(18-200) with additional (50mm f1.8),8GB card, bag priced at $1667. I would be mostly taking pics of my 1year old son and for travel. Some friends told me canon is more user friendly while nikon pics are better/natural..

Hi, i have the same situation like yours few months ago and end up buying D90.
The performance for both camera is good, nothing much to compare unless you are a pro.

The reason i bought D90 is because i prefer the grip and the camera body, although it is heavier and the grip is bigger compare to Canon 500D. But i feel the buttons at the back of the camera is more user friendly and very comfortable when holding the camera on my hand. I try holding Canon 500D, i think my hand will cramp after holding it for long period, as it is a little bit smaller, you will need to use your finger to "hook" the grip and keep pressing your hand to hold it tight. The view finder for D90 is also bigger.

As for the promotion Canon is having now is very attractive, but my advise to you is choose the camera you feel comfortable with, try to ignore those promotion. The promotion will be useless if you don't feel comfortable using the camera. Try to hold the camera in your hand, maybe you will end up buying Nikon D90 like me.:)

Above is my personal advise for your;).

Yes I totally agree with KerKerK.

Before i bought my D90, i went to Comex to try out the models that I was interested in to get a feel of holding it. After trying out both Nikon n Canon, i decided on Nikon as I felt more comfortable holding it, not like crampling my hand to hold it.

So go have a physical feel of the camera before deciding. Upcoming Sitex will be a good playground for u. ;)

Can your guys advise? I planning to buy a DSLR, which is prefer a D90 or A550.

Hi Alfjas

u like Sony or Nikon more? lol.. do more research on the net n compare.. ;)

You shud consider the lens availability n price among the two models..

Like you, I was also in the same predicament for similar reasons, except that I wanted a good camera to take pics of my baby more than travel.

Like Kerkerk, I also decided on a D90 after deliberating over these two models.

The deciding factor is the ergonomics after I handled both. It felt better holding D90 and I like the buttons - to me, Nikon is easier to search for functions altho my sister insisted that Canon was more intuitive. And I've used Canon point-and-shoot for my whole life, so I wanted something different.

Plus the craze for D90 was too strong for me to resist then.

well, look like D90 is going to fit my bill.. i happen to came across this NIKON AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6G Zoom Lens is it good? and wats the rough price for 2nd hand piece of that lense.

I am a Nikon user for the past 5 years. D90 is really a gem. I have been using it to cover many shooting events for the past few months. I bought it 2nd hand though. So far no issue. When it was mounted with my Sigma 30mm, the result is...

hi Velovictor,

Is not the brand. As compare, lots of positive comment on the A550, so wonder what is the difference as compare to D90? Even MS recommend.
