well, you seem to think that D90 should be kept as a camera. strange...

heh... yeah, that's me i guess. Personally I just feel that gadgets should never be 2-in-1, 3-in-1, 4-in-1, etc... They just won't work as great.

IMO, the movie capability is just a bonus that if i wan to record an impromptu moment, I can do it. But definitely not gonna bank on it for a superb recording.

Not implying that you're totally wrong in doing that, coz it's your equipment. Just sharing my take on it ;)

will drop by there soon...
thanx

wow tats quite ex...wat gd stuff they provide..

you can try dropping by John 316. I just got back from there, seems like they MAY still have.... and their pricing is definitely BETTER than those electronic megastores

Sorry, didn't see what freebies they are giving .....

fwahh still $1988? i tot nikon slashed the price of d90 already to $1688 in newspaper adverts!

RRP is still 1988 with the 18-105mm VR lens, the 1688 price I think is for the 18-55mm VR lens.

I saw it going for $1688 w 18-105mm kit lens at Hougang Mall atrium (by Harvey Norman) over the weekend. Not sure if they are still there.

Hey D90 people,

I have an 18-200mm. Do u think i should keep my 18-200 to use with the D90 or sell it and use the 18-105 VR kit lens. Do you go beyond the 105 when videoing? I am getting the D90 primarily for video.

This is specially for JacePhoto since he/she is into the video mode of the camera.

Some tips on using D90/D5000 for taking good/high quality vids.

Am a recent owner of D90 and would like to comment on the video function. On day to day usage, the video is great and playing around with the manual focus is really fun. However, i have on two occasions tried to record some live performances, and the sound recording really let me down.

1) Air supply concert'09
2) An open air performance at Jurong Pt

I know that this is not the intended purpose of this great camera but just felt that if Nikon put it in, it should perform at least decently right? :dunno: the sound output was scratchly at best and totally noisy and unusable at worse, did not match up to my friend's sony T-series at all.

Is it my camera? Or anyone also face this issue?

Tks in advance.

cheers,
kilkenny

the d90 records sound in mono only, not stereo. i believe your fren's T-series has stereo sound recording in movie mode. that makes quite a big diff. some pns have wind reduction/filter features as well, which would cut down the "scratchy" noise.

Hi bro, I feel that the video function is meant for some basic decent filming, and not for those extreme occasion like a concert or equivalent; whereby the sound will be amplified.

From my own experience, it seems that the mic is not able to record very loud sound. After all, its dSLR as a basic function and video as secondary.

If you ever try to film in normal condition than what you have done, maybe you can tell the difference. But if even under normal condition and yet you face such issue, probably you might wanna pay Nikon Service Centre a visit since its still under warranty.

On top of that, do you experience when using the continuous H shooting? I have one occasion where I was shooting at the zoo for more than half a day - there were mixture of single shots and continous. But then suddenly, there was this "ERR" word on it and the LCD display was blinking with aperture reading goes up to F90.

I thought it will be alright after I turn it off and on, but it failed. Then I turned it off and took out the battery. It was considerably warm on the surface of the battery. So I put back the battery and restarted it (as if like a car get overheat and you need to let it rest). And also some adjustment of the lens, it became ok and start to shoot again.

My oh my?! I was shocked. And Nikon Service Centre, just ask me to bring it down for checking. I have yet got time to do so but so far I've tried again at home, it works as per normal.

So do you ever experience any fault or problem from day 1 of using D90?

Hmmm I have yet to get such a serious problem and the worse i faced was occasionally the AF function goes off as in cannot focus at all. I checked with the sales person @ harvey norman when i was getting my 50mm F1.8 and he advised that i just take out the lens and put in again, says this is common for Nikon lens.

Overall i am satisfied with the camera so far so keeping my fingers crossed
