Just like to check wif u guys if its advicable to purchase the D90 kit wif a 18-105mm lens or 18-55mm for a newbie to start wif?

Btw: Nikon D90 Kit with 18-105mm Lens, 4Gb Card, standard Nikon bag & Nikon Tripod for $1699 izzit reasonable? dun wan to be chopped for my 1st DSLR

Hi maomao82,

This price is reasonable but not the best. I got mine @ HN @ bout the same price but with 2 8GB card, lowepro bag and free filter(alot of ppl will say its not useful but hey i'm a kiasu singaporean hahah). The tripod i did not want as i already have a slik pro gm. i think maybe u can get a more sturdy one than the one they are giving. Also i think HN got some scratch card thingy for every 500 dollars spent that can win you btw 10 to 200 dollars, i got 50 dollars extra discount from the scratch cards haahha.

Just walk around and ask ba but as miaoteh says, just grab and start shooting. This price is definitely reasonable if you dun catch the upgrade fever hahaha. After scouting MONTHS for the D90 to save that extra 50-100 dollars, i went out and bought the 50mm F1.8 on the fly and am on the lookout for more accessories but trying to control hahaha.

Anyway Happy shooting, i think get the D90 and master it first!! :bsmilie:

cheers,

haha... the 50mm is a GOOD buy and a must have!
Cool man, we're using the same setup... lol, but different pics come out :X

Well mine quoted me 1988 as well but after bargaining long and hard they gave me the more realistic pricing. I checked HN bukit panjang, HN funan and HN @ novena sq II both gave me price in the range of 1670-1699. In the end the one @ sq II gave me the best freebies so i bought from there.

I bought my 50mmF1.8 @ HN funan after i received quite bad service @ AP funan. Ended up i got better pricing and service from HN @ 195 with free filter compared to AP without.

Economy not so good.......if u show them that you know your market price and am a serious buyer i think most of them quite ready to match the price. But depends on your negotiation skill also ba.

hi...do u encounter the prob that i asked few posts back?

Hi presto80,

Do you mean this?

jus got my d90..does AF works when shooting near obj like a hp length using viewfinder?

i find that mine most of the time cant shoot where else in liveview mode..it can.

issit norm?

I think bro jasonlingwj have replied you. There is a minimum focusing distance of 45cm (quoting him, i not too sure the actual). I tried shooting near object but the AF wun allow the shot, so i switch off AF and try to do a manual focus best i can and the shot turns out blur hahha so i just trust the IQ of D90.

Have not tried in liveview though but guess the picture wun turn out sharp too? If you want to shoot macro think you can get a raynox 250 to begin with hahaa i think it should give u some fun with macro...another thing on my gian list ;p

yup..this is wat i meant..using af the shot wont go thru..onli mf using viewfinder..
but jus find it wierd hw come lvieview can shoot..

pardon me for such qn cos im verii new to slr..haa.

If u go mf, viewfinder also can shoot but think D90 the IQ is supposed to be good so hahah must trust the equipment also. Sometimes if for those marginal within the focal length one, i will switch the af to af-s and the shot goes through....haha

still mastering the camera also, must fully understand what the camera can or cannot do, rest of it will be up to the photographer liaoz.

Read and re-read the instruction manual, i find it helps. As we gain more working experience with the camera, the instructions become clearer somewhat, just my 2 cts worth. At least it works tt way for me. :bsmilie:

yupz..goin to read the manual n play wif it..haa

thanx

the d90 records sound in mono only, not stereo. i believe your fren's T-series has stereo sound recording in movie mode. that makes quite a big diff. some pns have wind reduction/filter features as well, which would cut down the "scratchy" noise.

Hi vodkaice,

Its definitely true, however i am also happy to report that when playback on PC, the clip is a bit more useable however the one from the air supply concert still goneD. Think the mono mic dun handle bass that well :bsmilie:

Thanks for the compliment. But i'm still considered a noob la. I usually shoot based on feel. I'm sure if you shoot more, u can achieve better man. You've got more variety of accessories to play ard with~

For me, i believe more in shooting experience over theory. Theory is dead... but the environment is always changing. If you can't adapt fast enuff to the changing conditions of the environment, then theory is basically useless.

any guys your tried 18-86mm vr lenses?
Im planning to get one.
Can post some picture here?
Thanks:D

Haha. I second that. In my recent overseas trip i missed a few great pics due to my slow manual switching (underexposure) and those scenes were like once only and that's it. No book will ever teach you choosing the correct settings for different environments!

Shoot more... Learn from it and u will never miss a great picture opportunity again.

im using the 18-105.

sorrie im new to dlsr...dial means the ffurthest end or nearest? sorrie in ofc nw..no cam to play.

sorry bro my mistake its not the white line its a picture of a circle with a line across the middle... oh the 45cm is from the nikon website... but ive tried goin lesser than 45cm and it still works for me sometimes....

decidin to do down service center anot...abit waste time..more gan cheong cos this is my first week.

thanx alot..

Hey bro... Just did a simple test for u. I tried firing at a distance of 40cm using Viewfinder and Liveview. No probs for me. At 30cm, could not fire off in Viewfinder. Managed to fire in liveview using auto focus but this is how the results looks like after some slow focusing.

Here are the sample images at 100% crop!
