Hi, I understand D90 can take video too. Can it be done in the same time while taking photos? Or take photos and videos need to be done seperately? If can be done in the same time, is the video and photos clear?

Thanks.

You can't take both at the same time. You can take either photo or Video. There are some limitations on the video. Do some research on the net. There are few reviews and guidelines on the net.

quick question, what does the standard D90 package include (minus all the freebies from different stores)

1. D90 Body
2. Kit Lens (18-105mm)
3. Software and papers
4. Battery n charger
5. LCD protector?
6. Lens Hood?
7. SD card (how many gb?)
8. Neck Strap
9. Nikon Bag?
10. what else?

SD card usually 4GB, buy a bigger capacity one.
No bag included in the standard package.

One more item - eye piece cap also included.

A friend of mine told me a shop in Lucky Plaza called "Nikon" is selling their D90 Kit II (with 18-105mm) set at approx. $1500+. Wonder if there's any hidden gimmick.. Have yet to check out..
What do you think...?

Hi guys...

I'm looking for dslr and still confused.
Considering d90,
I have a few questions:

1. How is the quality of the kit 18-105 VR?
2. How much is the price for Tamron 17-50 for Nikon? I know for Canon is about S$612 to S$650
3. Is it true that all lenses for Nikon will be always more expensive compared with others?
4. Does D90 compatible with all lenses. As I know, models like the new D3000 or D5000 only can do auto focus on some specific lenses.

Thank you

Not too bad. It's quite useable.

2. How much is the price for Tamron 17-50 for Nikon? I know for Canon is about S$612 to S$650
Should be about the same price.

3. Is it true that all lenses for Nikon will be always more expensive compared with others?
Why should that be the case? I think the answer is no.

4. Does D90 compatible with all lenses. As I know, models like the new D3000 or D5000 only can do auto focus on some specific lenses.
You can't autofocus with manual focus lenses (duh!).. You can't meter with lenses without a chip in them (eg AiS lenses, Carl Zeiss ZF lenses etc).

If that shop is Lord, it should be ok. Make sure it's a local set and check whether GST is included as agentxq49 mentioned.

I wouldnt know abt ALL..
But D90 has built-in autofocus motor while D3000 & D5000 does not.Which explains some of the lens limitations.

Thanks for the replies, lsis, azman and redmon. I've checked the Ken Rockwell page and I think it's safe to assume that D90 covers 80% of Nikon lenses. Now I just have to make sure 3rd party lenses are working properly with d90 as I saw in another thread they have some problems with Tamron 17-50.

One more thing,
Do you think the IQ of the kit lens 18-105 is good? because I asked my friend, he holds a D300 for quite some time, and he said the 18-105, together with his 18-200 IQ are not very good. Justifiable, but not very sharp. Is it true?

I guess I knew that shop. It's not so far from Lord. the store looks like exclusive for nikon product only. I once went over there asking for the D90 body only and one of the sales man quoted me $1250 with gst but somehow when I ask him furthermore about the package and he talk to me in abeng way... i feel so scared and runaway. that was 2 month ago. beware!:)

hi Dwenz,
I saw in your sig, you are using tamron 17-50mm f2.8 with d90. How much did u buy the tamron? How's the performance?

Thanks

Like most things u read online, there will be more people complaining when something goes wrong then when they're happy with it. The 'some' problems % could be the very sml minority. Just check well before purchasing.

I never have problems with mine and find it strange that u often find many sellers in BnS. But then my seasoned PGer friend told me to relax, its just that some, not all, are simply 'geardos' who'll buy, try, sell, a hobby in itself..lol:bsmilie:

Hi Joker,

The images I took using the 18-105 kit lens are sharp enough for my usage. However, when I use the 50mm f1.8 lens, the images are sharper.
Perhaps if you have the luxury of time to touch-up & sharpen the images on the computer, the kit lens is sufficient enough for the job :)

Cheerio !!

Hi SkyGuy,

Does you lens keep on trying to focus when you press the trigger ?

If it does, then that explains it. Your camera can't take the picture yet (shutter cannot release) because it's trying to autofocus on something. Once you set it to manual focus, 'click' the picture is taken.

Is that what you are facing ?

Or does your shutter open after you press the trigger and remains open even though 8 seconds or more have passed ?

yo! joker134, the tamron 17-50mm was bought from cathay photo in penisular plaza for about $650 paid by credit card. The IQ is good but i found it slightly sluggish in term of focusing. I used to have nikor AF-S 18-55mm F3.5 - 6 VR and in my opinion it's really out perform my current tamron lens in focusing although this tamron lens come with built in focusing motor.

Just bought my D90 kits set yesterday, waiting for charging. First DSLR, :D
