Just got myself a D50 from Funan at $1418 nett, and collected the 1G SD card and bag from Nikon service center.:D

The Kit lens is nowhere compare to the D70 Kit lens, it feels like a plastic toy:angry: . Will be happy to sell for $100 if anyone interested.:dunno: This D50 now is fitted with my spare Sigma 18-125.

D50 is much lighter than D70, and missing the front Dial, other than that it feels very much similar to D70.

What type/barnd of the bag & Sd card?

the bag is similar to the domke journalist series back, except its in canvas. i believe the domke's version is ballastic nylon.

SD card - i heard its silicon power? :dunno:

The SD card is Silicon Power, and the bag is rather big Nikon bag.

After playing with the D50 for a while and compare with the D70, I would like to dispute with anybody who say that D50 is strip down version of D70. The only major thing missing is the front dial, DOF button, no catch to hold the LCD protector. Smaller and lighter body to me is a plus point. Functionality, quality wise is exactly similar.

Off course the D50 Kit lense is nowhere compare to the D70 Kid lense. SD memory should not be considered as inferior.

It is the matter of personal preference either to get D50 or D70S. The D50 Kit lense is useless, I consider D50 body alone cost about $1300 ($1418 - cost of 1G SD card) and I believe the price of D70s body should be about the same ($1840 - cost of Kit lense $250 - 2x 1G CF card $220 = $1370).

Ha ha, bought the D50 from CP today..:sweatsm:

Got a shop near the front entrance listed $1320 before GST but I bought from CP instead.

wow, terrific deal i must say. is the D50 the cheapest DSLR with kit lens in the market now?

the 350D sales is gonna take a beating in this market of super compact DSLRs.

its just me - but i dun buy cameras from harvey norman, courts or best denki cos i'm paying full retail price. as for the extended warranty... well, never really saw the need for them anyway. u can get the camera cheaper by a few hundreds (which can be invested in other equipment) if u purchase at shops like cathay.
You can actually ask for discount, I tried b4 & get cheaper rate compare to CP, not that everything cheaper but you can always try. I'm also a regular at CP;)

pretty reasonable. plus, i believe the bag this time ard is better made than the previous version. saw it at the service centre recently. think u folks need to redeem it from there. ;)

tao - guess, by far, d50 is the cheapest, short of buying a 2nd-hand EOS 300D kit set. but, 350D taking a beating? mebbe, or mebbe not. d50, as espn pointed out somewhere else, was targetted more likely at the upgraders from PnS or prosumers with SD cards. if u are a pixel-peeper kind of buyer, than 350D at another $400+ extra gives u 8MP. so, its up to the individual.

i do know some of my prosumer using colleagues are contemplating on the D50 cos the SD cards and compactness of the cam. ;)

Ya, HN is one of the big electronic/electrical retail shop that can bargain.
But not all items or item too new, just launch in market.

1 of the reason I opted for D50 is that I got 2 X high speed 1GB SD from my FZ20.
Saving of at least $250.
