D7000 Discussion Thread III

yes bring it in!!

but i have tested 6 sets (3 in shops and 3 at expo) , all have hot pixels.

i will bring mine in only after my project and photography job is done.

to me it's not a big problem.

in fact i will definitely pick up another d7000 when the price drop :)

I had around 3k shutter over the weekends for vacation and wedding. Following is my comments comparing d90 and d7000.

1) d7k shutter is definitely faster.
2) d7k white balance seem to be quite accurate for all the scene. Just need a little bit of fine tuning for some shot.
3) d7k buffer is definitely enough to shoot raw fast and continueslt even on class 6 card. No more wait for memory card flush.
4) d7k battery extension rubber latch seem to be positioned badly for me, use to pop out in between shoots.
5) d7k seem to be quite often to over exposed natural shoots, especially when the photo is composed by majority green?
6) d7k have very good auto control over flash. Both for the built in and external flash.
7) d7k focus faster on Nikon lens in overall. But not the case for 3rd party lens such like my tamron 17-50 and tokina uwa f2.8.
The autofocus stop working intermittently in between shoot and I have to remount the lens. It caused lost shoot during wedding.:(.
8) whether u like it or not... Hot pixel issue still there. In LE and movie.

Oh... For me, I felt that D7k AF with the tamron 17-50mm faster than D90... And I dont have problems with AF stop working in betw.... hmmmm...

Sorry, could you enlighten a bit further regarding points #1 and #4?

What exactly do you mean by "shutter is definitely faster"? As far as I know, the shutter opening/closing is determined by the exposure time. So if you set 1/4s (for example), the mirror and shutter open for 1/4s to expose the sensor. This should apply for all cameras. So I don't understand the 'faster' comment.
If you're talking about the sound of the mirror slap being more 'crisp', I might be inclined to believe you.

Should be saying, at least one stop faster rather then shutter is faster.
I am not a pro. So can't really know how to describe how is the faster means.
i am able to shoot some low iso pictures by handheld that I will not be able to do it on my d90 previously?

Regarding item 4.
There is a rubber cover on the d7k grid,Beside the battery cover for extension battery usage? Tat is the rubber that keep on pop out during my usage. Other people might not facing the same issue.

Mine so far happened at least 4 to 5 times (the autofocus motor not moving also).
Quite randomly. :(

But I am sure it doesn't happen when I use nikkor lens.
Not sure it is the problem with my body or Wat.:(

AF performance on tamron and tokina is like very random too. Sometime it is faster, but sometime it hunts forever.

I face the same problem. I noticed that my right little finger tend to 'giau' out the cover during usage...

I know this long ago. So Ido keep third party lens at all. Not my worry.:)

I bought Transcend class 10 16gb SDHC cards at $65.00 each. The older class 4 cards couldn't flush fast enough even at 3 fps shooting speed. The cards get hot when used so get reliable brands as some pple reported Transcend cards having corruption problems. So, just in case I am using the second slot as backup. The SDXC cards at Best Bargain was over $300 when enquired last week. Too expensive for me. Bought their only SDXC card reader for future use as it is backward compatible with existing SDHC cards.

Bro, may I know where to buy cheap and good class 6 or above SD cards? Thanks!

not sure what D7k grid is...
based on "PaulKami"'s description, it sounds like it is near the DOF preview button position. Will look closer at D7k photos to get a better idea. Thanks!

So any explanation of point #1 (shutter speed faster) ?

Yes you're right... ;)

Thanks bro!

i think he meant "grip" as opposed to "grid"

happens to me also, sometimes i accidentally loosen the stub when i grab the grip

Ah.... So you mean you can bump up the ISO speed to a higher value than with your D90, so that for the exact same scene, you can shoot (for example) at 1/60s instead of 1/15s, thus reducing hand-shake?

this is one of the main 'selling points' of D7k mah... the supoosed (I have yet to try it for myself) improved high-ISO performance.

'grip'... ahh I see...
I was thinking gridlines within the camera's VF :D

Seems like wrong placement of the flap then? hmmmm I need some closer inspection.

1 quick Qs: does 39 focus points shown on your view finder? i can only see 1 point which is the selector focus point.

When I first test the camera I saw the 39 points squares. After testing and playing with the settings, now I end up like you one square only.

I could not get back to the oringal setting. Feel like to reset everything.
