D7000 Discussion Thread III

Really weird things happen O_O

Remember last time I complained about seeing hot pixel during video shots? Yea, the video I put up, the ISO is firing automatically.

This time I tried @ manual control at ISO3200 and I see nothing... Really nothing. I blow it up @ my big TV, pausing it, looking in details, nothing... I see nothing O_O That particular hot pixel disappeared O_O

*state of shock here*

mine too. i guess hot pixels come and go and may shift to other areas.

Got my D7k last Sat and some guppy photog in jpeg shooting to share.

The moment I had my eyes on the viewfinder and the lens aim at the guppy, the thing that struck me was the speed. The AF lock speed was a significant faster than the D90. Focus Hunt was also drastically reduced when in AF mode.

The feeling I get from this body is quickness quickness quickness. It kinda urges you to turn it on and use it.

Great camera & beautiful pets... In two minds about getting a D700 later or a D7000 now. Thes pics tilting the equation a bit for me :)

Go for D700 if u hv more budget and do not need the camera to shoot video!
Or wait for the D700 replacement if u can wait...

Get D7000 if u really cant resist urself! :sweat:

D700 is a considerably high end product group offering FF. I have not use it so cant comment.

I have spend considerable time on the D90 and a day with my bro's D300. In my opinion, especially against the D90, the D7k just feel fast. The feel is entirely different. The autofocus engine is such a treat to work... it locks on be it AF-S, AF-A or AF-C, 3D Tracking on AF-C, Point, Dynamic, etc. I had 2 models of show guppies, one red and other a much duller blue, in a small tank, on my study desk, lighted only by 1 ceiling light above in a typical hdb room, to test the sensitivity of the AF system. Lens is 3rd party Tamron 90mm Macro. The D7k just locks focus on either specimen in what I would think it's a considerably unwell lited black tank. Focus hunt was very minimal, esp vs the D90. The feel on the shutter button is also entirely different.

Dead pixels or whatever (I have not tested though I do love long exposures at night at F2x)...but this bugger is quite a screamer for the money.

If you've the money to go for the 700, then by all means you should. It's a FF after all.

Or if you can wait, you should wait for the replacement for 700. :)

Thanks guys. You all are right. But I better get out from here quick else my resistance reduced to zero :)

Have the budget for the D700 & I know its fantastic, no doubts about it. But on personal level, my main bugbear & obstruction is the bulk & weight of FF particularly with batt grip, my preferred accessory. I move around a lot & love to bring my cameras on my holiday travels. Currently with DX incl accesories, already lugging something like 5kg around (weight equiv to my rice pack!) for days, FX??? D7000 seems more attractive for this basic reason. Decisions, decisions, will wait to see what will be my Xmas present or the new replacements :)

I've never heard of SD card resolving hot pixel issue. It's the hardware, not the memory -_-;;

Besides, Class 4 cards are slow in my context -_-;;

Bro, may I know where to buy cheap and good class 6 or above SD cards? Thanks!

Hi guys,

The other day at SITEX, was asking one of the sales people about the hot pixle prob on D7K, he said that a new firm ware is out that resolved this. Anyone out there can confirm this? Or is it another sales ploy? Thanks

Apparently firmware don't resolve sensor problem unless they add in pixel mapping feature in that new firmware. But what I heard was more QC was being installed and camera was pixel mapped before they leave the factory.

haha the older we get the lighter we want the camera.
if strike toto i want the future leica m10. haha.;p
