Cool man...didn't reallize this cam is so popular....this list is second longest in the F mount user list now....I guess "7" is always lucky :)

Another D700 user here! The reason I got the D700 is not so much about upgrading from my previous D200 but more so about the Full frame factor... I hated the crop factor, felt constipated. Full frame was like a breathe of fresh air, able to take subjects closer and get shallower DOF while maintaining lens performance at apertures like F2.8 without losing the shallow DOF and also have better communication with your subjects. 50mm felt like it used to during the film times! I use mainly primes and love it, but not willing to spend much on zoom lens as I seldom shoot events, hence I now face the dilemma of unable to get a decent cheap standard zoom, coz the Nikon 24-85mm F3.5-4.5 seems to be sold out! I don't think this is a factor anymore.
DX cams have excellent selection from UWA (12-24 and upcoming 10-24) to normal (35mm) lenses.
So, DXs are not really handicapped when compared to FXs.
If ISO 6400 is a must, then by all means, go for FX.

Not true. There is no f2.8 glasses for UWA in DX. 12-24 is f4.. while 10-24 is normal

For what purpose do you need f2.8 with UWA lens?

Most uses of UWA are probably in landscape and interior design.
For interior design with low light, I would go for high ISO rather than shallow DOF.
For landscape, I don't need f2.8. I need a tripod :)

BTW, Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 has been available for sometime.

Anyway, we can argue all day. :bsmilie:

i read before somewhere ... it is about 1000 shots.

u can expect it to be true at 1000 shots, personal experience is that i manage to get off 700++ shots in 1 day on 1 battery at the thailand motor show this year and still left with 2 bar on my battery indicator (34%) on a mixture of VR and non VR lenses and quite some bit of reviewing on the LCD

The EN-EL3e batt can ast approx 700 to 800 shots per charge from real life experience.
I owned the D700 and shot mainly with the 24 70 f/2.8. Batteries are all original and CF is Sandisk III Extreme 30mb/s. There are at least 2 instances where the dslr "hanged" while i was doing some quick reviews directly after some shots...The LCD would blank out and would not respone to the "play" button. DSLR did response to Menu or other functions. A Quick "Off/On" would resolve the issue and all data are ok....Any D700 users experience this ???

I'd similar experience before too. But haven't experience it since I update the firmware. Dunno if it was rectified.
