yes, I do notice there are many Nikonian selling their D700 away. Just wonder what's the reason.

Thou D700 is a very good body, its also very bulky and heavy. many ppl tired out every fast using the D700 especially if they couple it with the 24-70mm. thus alot of ppl gave up using D700

BUT.........

give up just because it's heavy???

thot they shud know that these bricks won't be light in the first place:dunno:

but maybe a argree with u

many years ago, i went to a shop in Singapore to buy a tripod
no $ for CF, so chose aluminium ones
i think they call it the manfrotto ... girl, i tell you
they don't call them man(instead of womanfrotto)frotto for nothings

it sure heavy
but point is, it's ok in the shop...

but after buy it, have hard time taking it out...
weight in shop is one thing; weight when carry around
girl, u gotto be kidding

so maybe, brother (or sister) nixontkl, u r rite
the humans who bought the d700 may know it be heavy based on specs
but after carrying the brick for a few outings...

maybe should have a sub poll like... those who have bought the d700 and have sold or keep in dry cabinet ... fall in !

D700 is a pro body, there are no kit lens bundle for pro body system as most ppl who buy or own D700 have already good FX lens to use with the body or they will go for a good FX lens to complement the camera.

having a kits lens bundle will not be well received as most would like to choose the lens they want to go with this small monster of a ISO LOL

Hi I just bought a D700 about a month ago in exchange for my D40X. I am currently looking for a general purpose lens between 24mm to 70mm or 85mm. However, my budget is tight, ranging about $1000. Although I liked the Nikon AF-S 24-70, I find them too expensive.

Would hope fellow D700 users to advise me if I should look for a 2nd hand AF-S 24-85 (cause I cant find any new ones in AP and MS Colour) or a third party lens. If third party lens, pls give me your comment which is good as I got no experience using them.:dunno:

third party lens, sigma 24-70mm F2.8, its significantly cheaper than nikon 24-70mm F2.8. the price is approx $1.6k if not wrong.

24-85mm if i am not wrong, its long discon and replace by the 24-70mm (pls correct me if i am wrong) can find 2nd now only

else nikon 24-120mm F3.5-5.6, not a constant F but its a general purpose lens. its light and cost abt $1k

Hi all,

where should i get it from and how much?

Fuji

do your research b4 buying, the body shouldnt cost more than $3.5k

gotten mine at $3480, last IT show got see $3400.

Thank you so much Nixon!

I understand that D700 used a different types of lenses right ? those DX cant be used correct?

I am currently using Canon camera and lenses.

So i am doing a detailed research before making a big switch to Nikon where all my investments on Canon will be put aside ....

Thx for sharing.

Btw, do you guys organise any outings for D700 ?

Cheers

DX lens can be use on the D700, by default the camera will auto crop its sensor size down to 5MP to accommodate the DX lens. if u manual select to remain in FX mode, u get vignetting (tunnel vision) pic lor. thus to enjoy the FX body, u have to couple the camera with FX lens

I dont know if there were any D700 outing, seldom join outing as i mostly got a group of friends that do photography to hang out with.

Thx dude ! Thx for sharing !

Maverick - consider Tamron 28-75mm. The poor man's alternative and at a fraction of the Nikkor.

Any one tried the Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM with the D700? Any comments?

Why not consider the N 24-105 f3.5-4.5?

I saw one wts AF-S 24-85 in B&S recently.

One shop in Lucky Plaza, don't know the shop name but it's in level 1 facing the taxi stand, has one new one selling at $600+.

Hmm... why did you buy D700 in the first place when you don't have the budget to get a proper lens for it?!?

I suggest selling away your D700 and get a D300 or D90 and have the extra $1K to get a good set of DX lenses.

I sold mine yesterday. It's a great camera but requires knowledge to use it properly.

It's heavy & bulky if you coupled it with the grip, decent lens then add the flash & you have a 2kg+ black brick :bsmilie: Not to mention a proper tripod to hold the weight.

I find a little prob with finding good modern lenses for it. Other than the now very expensive 24-70 F2.8 (heavy) which doesn't give me good coverage for my travels (travel light) I have to buy old lenses ( fun hunting & cheap ) then I ended up with a dozen lenses. You can have a nice 50, 70/80-200 AFS (over $2.5K), 24-70 F2.8 ($2.5K), 14-24 F2.8 or 17-35 F2.8 (both well over S$2K)

If I'm not wrong, the 24-85 does not have a constant large aperture?

Anyway, I'm considering the D90(no stock) or 60 as a 2nd body + for travels then throw in the 18-200. 17-55 F.2.8 (excellent lens IMO) & a prime. Makes life easier....
