im sorry coudn't give you detail yet because i was only playing with it in dim light with high iso... not the real world kind of a shooot...

innitial thoughts:
the body feels like my 18-105 kit from d7k.
auto focus sounds like 18-105 with screeching sound. snappy like my 18-105
vr is so effective that i can get a steady shot hand held at 85mm in 1/30 (est) of a sec.

sharp wide open in the center frame at 50-85mm .... slightly lesser than my 50mm 1.8d on f2.8

thats about it......

tomorrow i will bring my toy at serangoon nex to photograph running kids at the wter playground.

Thanks your input!

i also noticed that when i mount my 50mm 1.8D the screw type auto focus.

the motor from d600 sounds like it has more torque and speed compared to d7k... i am afraid that someday it will plow all the gears inside....

The 50mm prime still not that worst,
once you try on the AF 60mm f2.8D micro & waiting the AF catching from noise level must be quite higher than 50mm :)

it seems that the D600 with its lower mega pixel count can use lower end lenses and still stay sharp
in comparison to the D800, my tests so far looks promising

it is possible to get good results with sloppy techniques with a D600,
while shooting with the D800, one has to be careful and practice good shooting techniques

I am not saying that the D800 is bad, just that the extra pixels capture so much details that it is easier to see them

Going to kick start my D600 adventure with the 16-35 f/4G and 85 f/1.4G :D

Good selection. I just hope my Sigma 85mm f/1.4 can hold up against the FX sensor. Else, may have to switch to the Nikon...

As for wide angle, I evaluated both the 14-24mm and the 16-35mm. At f/5.6 - f/8, the 14-24mm still has the distinct advantage, and I am going for the 14-24mm.

Vignette is also apparent in the 16-35mm at large apertures, although it is easily corrected in PS

Sigma 85 f/1.4 can stand on it's own, but when I look at the 85G vs 85L, it's totally different :o

The 14-24 definitely is the clear winner, I don't doubt that. But eventually I'm going to settle for the 16-35, because it's smaller and lighter (which is the reason I dumped my heavy DSLRs), it has a front 77mm filter slot which is a big plus for me. The 16-35L was a walk around lens for me and the 16-35G will serve the same purpose. Although it's f/4, but the VR makes up for it and I think the VR will do me better than then f/2.8 when it comes to travel photography. The corner and borders of the 16-35 is not too shabby too, at least better than the 17-40L. But main weakness is not vignetting, but CA. It's rather strong even compared to the 17-40L.

I think quite a number of canon users jumped ship this round because of this camera.

For the benefit of those new here, if you are looking for a new flash, Challenger is having a roadshow in Funan lvl 1 now, the SB700 is at $399 any mode of payment. Just proceed to the Nikon booth. I bought 1 a while ago.

Do they have any promo on the SB910?
