Just finished a shoot with this cam. Hunts quite badly under extreme low light conditions.

My experience was quite the opposite. May I ask how low is your low light (can give examples pls cos maybe my interpretation is wrong)

I just finish a shoot also, focus lock was fast.

Oh I see. I did something similar, closer to 7pm, focus lock was spot on. Used spot metering and ISO 800-1600 though.

I tried both spot and matrix, and I have a lot of ISO2500

Hmm maybe you try again another day and see if same issue occur.

I am poisoned.... Got a few questions tho'.

Any Recommendation for the shop to buy from? As of now, Cathay is the forerunner @ 2780(include gst) can pay full/part cc installment no change in price. SLR revolution same price but have charges for cc. These are the two I have scouted.

I am a d7000 user so my question is how much of an improvement is the d600? IQ I think has been covered by various reviewers quite well, and I am happy to read from this thread that the af is improved. Never had a big issue with the d7000 on af, but thinking back on my experiences, in low light situations indeed the d7000 is groping around too much. Any other noted improvements?

Also, appreciate if you guys can share some experience on lens for fx. Currently, my main arsenal is my tokina 11-16f2.8, nikon 35f2 and 85f1.8. The 35 and 85 are fx lens. Now, the usage in general is the tokina for landscape, the 35 for walkabout(actually for most things, love this lens v versatile) and the 85 for portrait. And thinking to replace the tokina for a nikon 24mmf2.8. comments?
Keeping the 35 but will 'replace' it with a 50mm(cos convert dx 35 is bout 50) so either nikon 50mm1.8g or the 1.4. Question is the 1.4 worth it? Very much more ex. The 1.8 I used before(my first prime) and I was blown away. Never use the f1.4 one before.
And finally, the 85 I will keep for the same usage. I love that when using the 85 on my d7000 my subjects don't notice me and I can really get candid stuff. V useful at functions, weddings etc. And the dof is marvelous. Will that change a lot when I use it on the d600? Effectively from about 130mm down to 85mm based on 35 mm sensor.

Thanx for your time and responses!

Just talk about sensor size 24x16mm D7000 vs 36x24mm D600, sharpness IQ, function wise, speed, body design, all can bet with D7000.

If your ISO setting didn't over 4000 range still good than enough and long time can go.

DX or FX both able to used with D600 & D800.
They is no issue,

I have some Sample on D600 used with DX lens here : http://vintagephotograph.weebly.com/d600-used-with-dx-mode.html

thanks for your reply. Is your recommendation to stay with the d7000? Cos I sometimes feel that I am just paying for the expeed3 sensor. With my d7000 I usually stay with iso3200 anything beyond that bugs me noise wise( unless I'm going for noise)

@gabrielteo : should be less than 2780. Chk with the shops again.

Processor is not the main issue..
Unless you upgrade into D600 for doing your small business.
The mainly D7000 even shots at ISO 4000 also not much noisy.

Everything is just depend you see some poison and hand itchy...

D600 has more cleaner low to high iso. It has also wider ranges of clean iso than d7k. It has a bigger file side with more pixel which means more room to crop if needed be. It can shoot dx and fx anytime you want. It has bigger and brighter view finder and a very shallow dof. It has more dynamic range compared to d7k. This means less pp to balance lighting.

It is a lot chunkier than d7k, feels good in your hands. It has an ergo similar to D800. 4.5 fps is good with longer buffer. It has 3.5 inch LCD screen, bigger than d7k. It also has hdr capability which i dont use it yet.

D7k is not a bad camera. Its just FF sensors has a lot advantage than crop and on top of that d600 is newer.

So you are correct, you are only paying for expeed3. I am happy that you have decided not to buy d600 because there will be few user here in sg, kinda like limitted. However, I WILL BE MORE HAPPY IF YOU BUY NOW. Coz its good to share happiness with others.

Oh and btw... You are just sour graping :p... So what are you waiting?

Hi rain5533, you mention about dust and oil issues on the FX sensor in you report. Is it D600 has this common issue of having dust & oil stain. My seem to have this problem after using it for only 3 days of shooting about 600 photos

But my D800 has facing it problem & already self cleaning almost 3 times.

If you have shots with macro or F13 maybe will be notice the sensor spot.

My d600 already has an oil stain at the upper corner in the sensor if i stop down to f16.

I am not alarmed because my d7k has that. Its removable by using sensor cleaner or service center. But i prefer the latter. Besides you can use the photoshop to remove the dust.

Will NSC clean it up FOC?

I have not taken more than F11 yet, maybe will check mine also later. Already 2k clicks
