Take out the Rocket blower... Rubber dun last well in a dry place, it may crack over time.

oh i know. i only put the rocket blower in when the hydrometer says 55% and above. which is very often because i lazy to change the silica gel :bsmilie:

buildings and scenic usually don't require a flash. (unless you want to illuminate a specific part of the building.)

portrait, best to use flash at night.

Depends on the effect needed as well. You'd need to understand the flash and how u can use it to fill in just enough and not black out the rest of the BG.

i tried to take some portrait photo with background scene...however,the person is sharp but the background is blur....i would prefer both person & background to be sharp....may i know what kind of settings to configure and rules to consider?

i'm leaving the office now so i can't explain much.


using a large apeture size, e.g. f2.8 will result in a shallow depth of field, i.e. the background blur your focus point sharp.

using a small apeture size, e.g. f22 will result in a deep depth of field, i.e. the everything will be sharp.

i tried Auto & P Mode but it failed me...i will try A and M mode with the setting above..

anyone can explain more details..what to consider such as distance between the object and etc.

I'd advice against the SB-800 if you're a beginner though :think:
There're already tons of cool techniques you can accomplish with just a SB-600 :thumbsup:

Depends on the usage though.... if you are a heavy event shooter, I'd say get the SB-800 straightaway... dun waste time and money on 600

Unless you are real serious about using your flash,then get a SB-800.
Cos many ppl usually buy a flash and then they under use, try considering a secondhand SB-800? :dunno:

I would like to take portraits shoot with background scenes and lanterns as well.

which lenses should i bring along? nikon d60 kit lens or 55-200? i will bring tripod as well..

i'd say the kit, you'll need the "wide-angle: that the 18mm side gives. but why not just bring both?

hmmm that depends on personal preference I stick to manual on nearly everything i shoot.

i suggest Aperture mode or manual, cause you would want your aperture to be wide, to get some good bokeh on your portraits. i've not seen the ligthing conditions there, but if you have a flash, bring it in case.

I think aperture mode will be fine, use f13 to make shots sharp enough else f8 if you want to isolate the potrait subjects. Use flash only if the ambient lighting is not enough to make a good exposure. Lastly dun forget your tripod

i only can use built in flash...don't external flash gun..

i will definitely bring my tripod..anyone is going this saturday to chinese garden?
