J316 Had at least one on Sat...may be gone by now.
I tested it out then and was quite impressed by the photos it captured. The overall feel was nice too, if you ignore its size. I was very tempted to get for my kid who's been chucking his IXUS aside to grab at my D200 these days. :bsmilie:

Hey Guys,
Saw this camera at Paris Silk Holland Village today. Quoted 920 for it (not sure whether it's with or without GST).
They are also selling brand new D70S kit for 1290 and D80 for 1860. Are those good prices?
Cheers!
Wow, care to share how you managed to obtain this figure? I always thought that the price that Nikon or any other company offers to retailers is a guarded secret. Frankly I would have expected an even lower amount.
i wouldnt openly disclose how i got that figure, but its accurate as far as i'm concernedthat price is mainly for exclusive Nikon dealers, all other retailers gets a cost price of $900 SGD w/o GST.
... i suggest u look for the 18-70 or 18-135. the new 18-55 kit lens falls under wat i like to call miam hiam buay pia... but if u ai hiam, it's KNS....
Izit possible to buy the D40 with a 18-135 rather than its Kit Lens ?
Erm... D40 is really a very different beast from the D80 and D200...
If the D40 is keeping you undecided... Maybe you don't really need D80 and D200?
I guess the D50 would have been adequate for your style of photography. Why not invest the $$ in a good lens? Just a suggestion...![]()
one d40 here, check it up before it gone.

dats my D50 on the right... and i thot the D50 was small enuf. guess i was wrong...
after trying it in the store, IMO, it's a toy camera. it's far too small for my liking and far too light. some will like it, but i'll take a d50 over this any day. image-wise, like in every iteration of nikon DSLRs, it seems to be better than the previous one. i tried out the d40 + kit lens in the shop at ISO1600, and the image to my eyes on the cam LCD seems cleaner than my d50 at max magnification. apart from the size, my other grouse is dat the d40 buries all the adjustment parameters inside the menu - so, unless u shoot P-rofessional mode most of the time, changing settings might require ur fingers to go thru some tantric motions...
oh yeah... i seldom say this for any kit lens of any camera... but for the D40, i think i'll make the exception. for those buying, i suggest u look for the 18-70 or 18-135. the new 18-55 kit lens falls under wat i like to call miam hiam buay pia... but if u ai hiam, it's KNS.... :bsmilie: at f8, i can see soft corners and light fall-off when testing in the shop.
overall, like the d50, i think the d40 is good for someone who is upgrading fm prosumers or PnS, and wants the powers of a DSLRs minus the complexities of a full-fledge DSLR, and a lightweight travel cam.
edit: oh yeah... looks like someone already posted a complete set of sample pics from D40. at least, the author of the site seems to make the same point abt the high-ISO pics.
