If you use film cameras before, the kit lens is about (in film numbers), 28mm-80mm. The AF-S 55-200mm VR is 80mm-300mm.

I cannot answer your question better or not. Simply because both lenses are used for different purposes. One is a telephoto (the AF-S 55-200mm) while the kit lens is a general purpose lens. 55-200 is used when you need to zoom in alot. It can be used as a cheap sports photography lens in broad daylight.

If you take family photos on holidays and this kind of stuff, you may need the kit lens' wider angle. in fact, most photography requires a wideangle of sorts. However, as you are a newbie, the 55-200 does have additional Vibration Reduction feature, which will help you to keep the picture from becoming blur-it minimises handshake.

Sorry if I'm a lousy explainer online. I tend to teach better when demonstrating with the real equipment.

N.B. There is a 55-200mm which has no VR. don't buy that one.

Hi,
do anyone knows, can teleconverter lens being use for D40x?
Is it wise to buy a teleconverter lens than a more expensive Telephoto lens?
Teleconverter lens / Telephoto lens, (Will the picture give th same quality)?

yes, there are AFS teleconverters, i.e. the nikon TC20

you can use it with the AFS telephoto lenses, but do note that on a 2X converter you lose 2 stops of light (correct me if i'm wrong), and that if your telephoto lense isnt a wide aperture glass, you will lose light, and may lose autofocus accuracy.

Generally with a good teleconverter, there is slight image quality loss, but still usable. Best is still telephoto alone without TC, most of the time people use TC because they want the extra reach, i.e. for birding, when you want 840mm, 1200mm etc

For the newbies out there like me... I came across 2 publications that have helped me understand photography much better... so here's a recommendation to you...

1. DSLR Photography with the Sony a100 by Andrew Chan & Karlo N.B. Simson (HWM Publications)

2. Mastering Composition with your digital SLR by Chris Rutter (PageOne)

Check it out for yourself ;)

So You mean the picture outcame will be darker?? Is TC 20 one of the better want? Can it be use for my D40x?

Visit Riceball at Funan, 1st floor beside Delifrance.

Loads of photography books and the staff are helpful too.

no picture will be the same, but when there is less light your camera AF will be affected.

TC20 = 2x, the rest is 1.4 or 1.7x check if its the AFS one, if it is the AFS adapter it can be used on your df40x

Ooo... I see. Thanks for your advises.....
