Wad's the stats (and price) for 18 - 200mm VR lens?

Our kit lens is 3.5F to 5.6F. 18-200mm VR lens is wad?

I think the 18-200mm VR lens is my ultimate goal...kinda broke now tat I just bought the D40...need to save up more to afford lens...

Because NETS is now charging 1.8% to the shop... and credit card is 2%... when you go get you lenses... tell them you will pay cash, and they can cut you a great deal! I got my 18-200mm VR at $1230/- just last week.

This price with all the price hikes? Where did you got it from?
An e-quote from MSC in early Jun 07 stated $1250 inclusive of (5%) GST.

If anyone here is planning to go into commercial photography. I suggest you all don't ever mention that you use a Nikon D40. Tell the employer/client that you are using XYZ camera and when you go for the shoot, just rent that camera. I just finished spending half the day emailing someone who runs an agency providing wedding photography services, with really disappointing results. Call it stupid business sense (on my part). Excerpts from the chain of emails below.

"D40 is a super low-end camera, are you still using this camera? Or you are planning to upgrade in the near future?"

"A photographer skill is not only will be judged by their photography skill but also the equipments they chose to use to do their job."

hehe, show the client this article ;p

cheapest quote i got before was $1200 incl. 5% gst from alan photo (sim lim).

This guy sure got the eye and has really max out his PnS!
But well, there will be hordes of people who judge books by its covers.

he's a magnum photog....shows that it's the person behind the camera that counts. :)

The problem with PnS is that the depth of field is so tremendous that it becomes a challenge to find a good background because you cannot make use of a reduced depth of field to blur it.

You mean his lens? (Well I really hope it's mine!)
It's only the filter, read he attached a step-up ring so he can use his 77mm filter.

oh... didn't notice

Just a notice for users who are thinking to using a D40 with 18-200mm, the body can be a bit "front heavy", so if you are the kind who shoot one handed (like me sometimes), it can be a bit troublesome.

18-70mm is still ok shooting one handed though.

Yeah, you're right... tried them on, thought my stock strap would snap! It's like slapping 18" rims on a small sedan!

Nah. Don't worry about the strap.. the hinges are more likely to vreak rather than the strap breaking. I've put heavier lenses and walked around before. Those extreme telephoto (500mm) kind, that are "supposed" to be mounted onto a tripod/monopod with the lens collar.

I worry more about the whole contraption falling apart :bsmilie:

Btw, yesterday had an event, roughly 6-7 hours. Here is the number of batteries you will need.

Use flash on 98% of the shots. (Flash=SB 400, had to use the flash as it was a night event). These are the results-32 battery changes, total 16 batteries. 4 sets of 2100, 2300, 2500 and 2700mAh batteries.

D40-1 and 0.333 battery (1 battery change)

Thanks for the caution!

Lemme guess, you took 600+ shots in about 6-7 hours? That makes up to about 1.5 pics/min? You kena tekan or what? :bsmilie: Oh yeah, for one who flew in hellys and took George Bush... this must be peanuts!

Can't help but stray a little... Sorry, I'm more a statistician than a photographer!
