Like most electronics, the price will fall, won't it? The high price is probably just there to cash in the early adoptors.

The achievement they(nikon) got from the D3/D300/D700 has caused their head a bit swollen ...

But in no time they will be shot down to earth once again ... ( very soon )

from 12mp 10 24mp. of course there is limited ISO.
if A900 comes up to be 12mp, iso12600 also can i think.
anyway, i only need till iso800 since after i brought a flash.:D

I read on dpreview that D3x will shot only @ 1.8 fps with 14 bit image (in the specification it's 5fps, but 12 bit image). Kind of disappointed, but I guess studio/landscape people don't need that high speed. But again, does Nikon really want to limit this to studio/landscape?

:bsmilie: I personally feel Nikon made a wise move. Given D3 is only out in the market for merely roughly a year, it really make no sense to cannibalize its own product with something better in such a short time. Of course in consumer point of view, the more features and more improved the better. But if you are the manufacturer, why do you need to do that ? It's not as if they are going to make more profit from it. Even without recession, the market demand for >20MP is not really there. Most are not even willing to pay for a D3 less alone 1Ds Mark III or D3x. All they need to just be as orthogonal as possible, produce a range of camera that are suitable for different purposes and maximize their production range and hence their sales. If D3x price range is targetting at D3, then its really going to make alot of D3 owners very unhappy, also it doesn't makes Nikon themselves happy to see the sales of D3 tumbling. So yah.... to new users upgrading, now you have multiple choices, which may be a good or not good thing. But to the market, I feel it's a healthy grow.

My 2 cents worth.

Whether nikon has made a WISE timely move, they will find out very soon ....
Competitors have produced hi res FF at a very attractive and competitive price. Where's nikon ??
In order for nikon to stay in the competiton, i feel they need to restructure their overall product range pricing strategy.

I think what was being posted in kenrockwell and luminous landscape need to be read carefully , this is the first time ever these two online photography magazine is fuming their thoughts .

I think they are very concern .. the warning is up as well .

If better comes with a x2 price tag, it will make sense.

In the commercial market if one need above 20 mp, they will already be using the digital back or Canon 1Ds Mk III.

Why would they be swayed to the D3X afterall the D3x is not any quantum leap in technology and certainly not any attractive in pricing to warrant any interest.

Anyway I have spoken to a couple of dealers in Singapore and they told me that they hardly had any enquiry about D3x at all. Unlike the D3 last year, partly due to economy and also they feel the price of D3x is like Nikon pointing a gun at their own head.

I love Nikon, but in the case of the pricing aspect of the D3x I think they are in dreamland and I am disappointed (not that it makes any difference to them)

Apparently it's already on backorder on Adorama according to KRW.

....ah but Singapore is just a tiny red dot in terms of market........

Sorry OT a bit. In photography or Camera history, is there a particular model from particular brand generated such worldwide unhappiness before because of hefty price tag?:)

Sorry again for the OT
