Does it matters whether Canon is market leader or not? Innovation and first to market comes with steeper price. As long as Canon continues to wow with its integration of technologies and keep price affordable.

What impresses me abt the 7D is the 100% viewfinder for this class (i think it uses the same eyecup as the 1D series) and its transmissive LCD for compensation of non-interchangeable focusing screens, thus displaying different information on the viewfiner itself.
Even the new EF-S lenses have a new design, similarly for the 100 f/2.8L macro.
I thought 7d already can have spot metering tied to individual AF points. Also have "spot" AF where it will AF on a smaller area.

the reviews have already stated that the nikon 51 AF points are more accurante than the canon 45 AF points.

Grip looks more flush?
USM,Canon has finally come out a reasonable good 1.6x crop DSLR. Remember, EOS 40D to 50D was not very exciting.
I guess that EOS 7D will be used to set the base for future models. Hence, the next replacement model for EOS 7D will not be that exciting.
If the price of EOS 7D is < $2,700, it will be very attractive. It won't be above $3,000 so as not to compete with EOS 5D mk II.
The best thing that i like about the EOS 7D is the 100% viewfinder coverage. Finally, Canon has incorporated the on-demand grid lines which Nikon has already incorporated donkey years ago.
Was looking at the internal flash on the 7D
i dun see any infra red outlet to let it command other flash leh ... where is it arh?
I wonder how good is the transmissive LCD and what kind of information customization is allowable?
Really? Which site/magazine has OBJECTIVE test results that verify this?
The closest I have seen is this: fotoMAGAZIN (Germany) No. 5/2008, p30ff.

Method:
* Continous shots (burst, continous AF aka AF.C) of an approaching red Chrysler PT cruiser, tripod mounted and panned centering onto radiator grill. Photograph besides road. Road straight. Test done on a closed military airport.
* Controlled speed: 100 km/h (62 mph).
Starting photo burst at 100m distance (109 yards, 328 ft). Stopping when passing by.
Time to drive through 100m: 3.6s.
* Focal length: 35mm equivalent of 200mm (135mm for K20).
* Aperture: f/2.8 or widest (Olympus).
* Shutter: 1/320 or shorter.
* Light: Daylight overcast with grayness. Constant conditions.
* Storage: JPEGs onto Sandisk Extreme III.
* Statistics: 6 series, averaged.
Short verdict:
Outstanding: 95-100% (relative ratio of in-focus shots)
Excellent: 85-95%
Good: 75-85%
Average: 25-75%
Poor: 0-25%
Then we have:
* Outstanding: A700
* Excellent: 40D, D3, D300, 1D, 1Ds
* Good: E3, D80, K20
Now that is cheap!!!
At first thought, i thought it can show different types of grid lines directly. For example, focusing screens are the physical, hardware type. Then the transmissive LCD acts in the same way, except it's in digital, software type.![]()
am happy with the old 5D now...
Would be nice if that is the way it works. Wonder how many buttons have to press to digitally change the focusing screen, or is it voice activated. :bsmilie:
