I know I'm going to get burnt but heck!!! Your search would be over with the Nikkor 14-24mm and an adaptor. You will not touch any UWAs from anybody ever again.

True. Nikon is still the strongest in the UWA side.

That is NOT true. The extraordinary FX 14-24 f/2.8 is a one off thing for Nikon.

Just take a look at the optical performance of Nikon's latest offering, DX 10-24. The edge resolution at 10 mm is horrendous in comparison to Canon 10-22 and Tokina 11-16. :thumbsd:

So much for Nikon's strength in UWA lenses.

Edit: Just wait a couple of years for Canon to match that 14-24 f/2.8 monster with a more sensible UWA that accepts filters. ;) Canon also needs to work on their 24-70 f/2.8 IS (shocked that Nikon did not bother to include VR in their recent update... what a mistake... just like their DX 17-55 f/2.8), 70-200 f/2.8 IS, 100-400, 35 f/2, 50 f/1.4 etc etc

It puts the 16-35mm Mk II to shame tho, tho its still a great lens, yeah oops typo

I agree with USM. Nikon still reigns supreme in UWA and Canon has to learn from them. But when it comes to tele, Canon reigns supreme.

We're talking about FF lenses, nothing to do with DX or EF-S lenses.

There has been so many rumors before the spec of 7D is finally released. Now doesnt seem to be tt impressive anymore....

Wen ming bu ru yi jian.....disappointed sia

The reason the 14-24 shines is due to new lens coating which allows optical engineers to go crazy in their designs. The recent Canon 17 mm TSE and 24 f/1.4 Mk2 lenses also spot similar technology and are just as marvelous.

Why? Just because it's not full frame? :bsmilie:

They shifted the power switch. Good. I hate its current position on my 50D. makes no bloody sense.

True, Canon;s 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM is superior to Nikon's, based on my experience trying both lenses

it's gonna be using the 5DMK2 batteries....

Good news to all EOS 5D mk II users.

EOS 7D is also using the same battery LP-E6 as the EOS 5D mk II.

does not seem like any kind for news for 5dmk2 users like myself, interesting to read but not to own.

Does that mean it won't have the battery meter with 3rd party batteries?

Yeah but i'll cost over $1K.

If it's above 1K, I would get Canon instead (slight edge in terms of tele) or wait for the new 15-85mm, I believe the price would be around 1K+ too (the price was quoted as USD$799 for pre-order in Amazon).

Many of us are expecting the replacement for the 1D mk III but turned out to be a 1.6x camera.

Many mk III users are relieved now as the value did not drop until mk 4 is launched.

And given how the 7D has raised the bar, I'm quite intrigued on the specs of the next 1D incarnation.

No wonder Canon decided to push back the 1D release to next year. Any mere incremental/marginal/piecemeal upgrade strategy Canon used to employ in the past would be laughable in the face of today's fierce competition. I suspect a monstrous increase at least in the FPS.
