Just noticed one cool feature: in-out macro compensation tool on the 7D!

What does this in-out macro compensation tool do?

I always wanted a 1D MKII but price wise is too ex...
Now 7D the spec is little brother of 1D and still not too ex compare to 1D......

wait for the 1DMkIV. Last year, 5DMkII wowed us. This year, 7D wowed us. Do you think you should expect less from 1DMkIV. I am quite sure it will dwarf the 7D.

Good news to all EOS 5D mk II users.
EOS 7D is also using the same battery LP-E6 as the EOS 5D mk II.

But a different battery grip! Why? Why? Why? If the base of the 5DMkII and 7D are almost the same size, why can't the same grip be used. It has to be a new BG-E7!!!

So as to look different from EOS 5D mk II, and to milk $ from us.

When is EOS 7D coming to Singapore? I can't wait to get it. ;p

the new grip looks nicer , where the camera joints on the sides. similar to the "dark side " ;p

do you have a link to the BG-E7? Maybe the BG-E7 can be used on 5DMkII and vice versa for the BG-E6.

I suspect the 1D and 1Ds will combine into 1DMkIV, giving you IQ and speed. Else I can't see how else can Canon sell their 1D series. And there is still space for 3D and 9D :)

You can try.. but camera body different size will probably need a different BG.

Possible... Possible. Then it'll be just like Nikon.

The dimension is 1-2mm off. I think maybe can be used. The battery slot will be the same. The screw hole maybe off by 0.5-1mm. Should still be able to screw right.

5DMkII
152 x 113.5 x 75 mm

7D
148 x 111 x 74 mm

What does this in-out macro compensation tool do?

Taken from here:

"Another truly unique use of AI Servo technology is employed during Macro shooting. The new system can compensate and track so quickly with certain lenses that it can lock and track focus as you unconsciously move closer to and further from your Macro target, like a flower. It essentially adds a third dimension to any IS-capable lens."

It's as good as saying there is stabilization for macro shooting in all THREE dimensions (when coupled with the new HIS macro lens).

How awesome can that be? :bsmilie:

Was looking at the internal flash on the 7D

i dun see any infra red outlet to let it command other flash leh ... where is it arh?

So they upgraded the Al Servo on 7D as well. Anyway, I am still struggling with my 5DMkII Al Servo on 2 planes. Seems like with the release of 100L with 7D, one of the strength of 7D will be macro photography, giving you a macro focal length of 160mm.

Yeahh agree with you.... grip looks nicer and more streamline with the cam body

iam pretty impressive with the specs from 7D..but it lacks FF...
so would u all rather not have the FF and go for the 7D or pay slightly higher for the 5DmII??

Canon still do not offer spot metering that can be tied to individual AF point. Size of spot metering is also not customizable.

Exposure bracketing is still stuck at 3 frames, right?

Honestly, when it comes to features, they have some ways to go... Or maybe they've reserved them for their 1D/1Ds series... :bsmilie:

PS:
Why are we allowed to pick only ONE option in the poll? I am getting both the 7D as well as the 100 macro lens. :bsmilie:

I thought 7d already can have spot metering tied to individual AF points. Also have "spot" AF where it will AF on a smaller area.

What impresses me abt the 7D is the 100% viewfinder for this class (i think it uses the same eyecup as the 1D series) and its transmissive LCD for compensation of non-interchangeable focusing screens, thus displaying different information on the viewfiner itself.

Even the new EF-S lenses have a new design, similarly for the 100 f/2.8L macro.

Precisely, I am answering to that dude question, instead of being a leader, they rather be a follower. Most of Canon DLSRs features are copied from others.

Only true for the last few years. I still remember when canon was at the forefront of innovation with cameras like the eos 5, eos 1v, eos 3. Since they became the market leader there really has been few areas where they were the first to market.

Does it matters whether Canon is market leader or not? Innovation and first to market comes with steeper price. As long as Canon continues to wow with its integration of technologies and keep price affordable.
