ouch~~ lol coz weekend too much stuff to do liao den on location not so many ppl

troublesome leh...

in fact, this is an issue with all canon cameras... Canon seems to make photos appear lighter and brigter and contrast is low, as compared to nikon. shooting at -0.3EV may help but not rich enough leh...

Photoshop......

Photoshop?

Hi,

I own a 450D. When compared to the photos taken by my Nikon friends, the colours and tone on the Nikon seems to be richer...

I know we can use picture style to improve this but the picture style on the canon website does not really improve the richness across all colours..

How should I calibrate the camera to produce richer colours? Custom white balance?

Cheers,
Keith

I have heard about this from friends, Haven't really tried and don't intend to. Probably the only way you might achieve it is actually switching camp.

Cool ans:cool:

Still got wat else if I dun have photoshop leh?

As a general rule of thumb, the colours you'll get from Canon cameras on neutral/standard setting will be neutral. This is also true of the higher end Nikon bodies such as the D300 etc. I've shot and processed images from the Canon 20D, 30D, 40D, 1DMkII and 5D, along with the Nikon D300 and D3.

Most profesisonals/serious enthusiasts will either prefer the neutral output of these cameras, or (where possible) load a custom contrast curve to give the images more punch.

In your case, you can boost the saturation values in picture style, but my stand on the matter is to achieve as neutral a look out of camera, and then do whatever you want with it later on.

I think both Nikon and Canon produce good image colours. Sometimes onboard PP might make the picture look nice, but in actually fact, when printed or viewed on larger screens, it may not be as good. Tentatively a DSLR camera is good, just use it, if you really must, then correct the color to your own taste using software.

I've seen primary school students using 1D with 70 200 f2.8 at events before, how they can afford to carry the things are what suprises me. lol they look so small. Thier parents are great to be able to buy gear like that for them. Then again some of these kids are really talented.

lol u can always hold on to your camera while it's mounted hehe. no harm going to meet people and share knowledge. Don't nessesary need to have gear to go for outings.
