your 17-55 already beats 15-85mm hands down in terms of sharpness and F2.8.
15-85mm has good IQ, but it does not have F2.8 and quite obvious barrel distortion at 15mm if you take straight lines.

One thing that I really dislike about the 7D is the position of its on off switch. You need to use your left hand to turn it on instead of just a single thumb flick.

I think you are too used to the traditional design.
I kinda think it's about the same once u are used to it except that it clicks once instead of twice for the old design.

the 7D is an outstanding shooter on nearly every level. So, if you don’t need — or want — to spring for a full-frame DSLR, but want a tough, easy-to-use and ridiculously customizable camera that makes pro-quality images at an affordable price, then you’d be silly not to consider this camera.

Fellow 7D owners..Quick Question. When you turn on the Cam do you hear a squishing noise (dont know how exactly to describe it but there its audible and happens when it does the sensor cleaning). I thought it was normal but then i read on some forum that it should be absolutely silent when it does this. Can anyone confirm, else i've to take it to the CSC.

my cam dont have that sound....

Just bought the 7D, the sound of the sensor cleaning itself is quite slight - nearly inaudible: sounds like air squishing out of rubber blower. Try hearing it when the environment has less noise in the background.

I do admit the 7D in the Canon showroom @ Vivo does make very audible sensor cleaning sound.

Yeah... The sound is obvious on my 7D

Exactly as mine, and only when I put my ear next to the camera ... I'll be worried if there is no sound :bsmilie:. When my little Olympus camera does its sensor cleaning, it's even louder, but of course it doesn't have the same build to help mask the sound.

Love this cam. The AF when paired with a good lens is great.
Deep down inside, heart pining for a FF because I made a huge mistake. I put my 70-200 2.8 mk 2 on my friends 5dm2 and took a few pics.
Probably end up with an additional FF like most forumers ..... after some time. Must be practical.

Is there a IQ difference between the 7D and 5D MKII? I am going to get myself a camera and gave myself some options:

5D MKII + 24 - 105 F4L
7D + 16 - 35 F2.8L

the first combi will be better.

What is the latest price of the canon 7D body now? Any more expected price drop?

You forgot to add : capable to walk with it's legs , see with 3d angle , think like irobot , exposure and shoot itself . Well done !
even , no need you to help this gear to shoot , but this will help you how to shoot .

I'm pretty disappointed because it didn't have the things that I have been asking for since 1596.....

a) 188% viewfinder
b) 0.68 crop factor or bigger (or better, interchangable sensors)
c) 88 fps
d) 88 focussing points covering 100% of the viewfinder with mind reading capabilities
e) 88 bit
f) quadruple cf card slots and quadruple sd card slots
g) built-in sensor scrubber
h) cable ready
i) self levelling legs
j) composition priority mode (will release the shutter once the best composition is attained)
k) exposure priority mode (will release the shutter once the best exposure is attained)
l) "kodak" moment priority mode (will release the shutter before a kodak moment, ensuring I won't miss an award winning shot)
m) dual shutter release button. one for the lefties, one for the righties. I strongly feel that all lefties are being discriminated against at the moment
n) capabilities to assess my success rate for the day
o) built-in coffee maker
p) built-in blue ray player

And where's that TS-E 8-1888mm f/0.88 L DO IS USM Macro??? Where's that IS module they promised that could freeze the world???

Hey I have the camera with the above specs already! It is really cool. No need to recharge batteries too.

Interesting.....mind if you can where to get more info that 17-55 beats 15-85mm hands down in terms of sharpness ?

I didnt realise that when i get my 15-85mm , only knew that both IQ are very much the same :)

just got my 7D + 15-85 + 8GB + screen protector + canon bag @ S$3280 from JO on saturday.

Upgrade from 500D. IQ is better, metering is way better ... so happy that I am still fiddling with it @ 1am in the morning :)

Downside for me are heavier, need to original battery (OEM battery screen will not light up) and I have to get a new shutter release cable for it.
